Connecting Your ZipCD Drive

IMPORTANT! Before installing or using your ZipCD USB drive, read and follow the USB guidelines to ensure reliable performance of your USB devices.

  1. If you have not already installed the ZipCD software, install it now.

  2. Locate the USB cable that shipped with your ZipCD USB drive and connect it to the USB port on the back of the drive.

Use the USB data cable that came with the ZipCD drive to connect the drive to your computer. Look closely at the cable ends for correct orientation when connecting.

CAUTION! Do not use USB extension cables with your ZipCD drive. Data loss may result.

  1. Connect the other end of the ZipCD USB cable to the USB port on your computer.

Look for "USB" or the USB symbol (shown below), which usually identifies the USB connection.

If you cannot locate the USB connection on your computer, refer to the documentation for your computer or USB adapter card.

For the best performance, connect the ZipCD drive to a built-in USB port on the computer. USB ports usually come in pairs (sometimes four or more ports may be located together). You can use any built-in USB port.

  1. Connect the power supply to your ZipCD drive and then plug it into an outlet.

The lightweight universal power supply included with your ZipCD drive works with voltages from 100 to 240 volts. Ensure the power light on the front of the ZipCD drive comes on after you have connected the power supply cable.

  2. Insert a CD into the ZipCD drive.

    Mac OS Users
When you insert a CD, a ZipCD disc icon will appear on your Mac Desktop.

    Windows PC Users
You will see the ZipCD drive icon in My Computer or Windows Explorer.

OPTIONAL: Connecting the audio cable

NOTE: If you want to use your ZipCD drive as an audio CD player, the following instructions are necessary. If you will be playing audio CDs with a CD-ROM drive already built into your computer, skip this section.

  1. In order to avoid damage to your computer and ZipCD drive, turn off the power to both your computer and ZipCD drive.

  1. Locate the two audio out jacks on the back of the ZipCD drive.

  1. Connect the audio cable included with your ZipCD drive. Connect the red jack of the audio cable into the red audio out jack on your ZipCD drive. Connect the white jack of the audio cable into the white audio out jack on the drive.

  1. Locate the "Audio In" or "Line In" port on your computer and plug in the other end of the audio cable. Check the documentation that came with your computer or sound card if you are not sure of the location of this port.

NOTE: The location of the line in port on your computer may not be exactly as shown in the illustration below.
