Connecting the Audio Cable

 

NOTE: If your computer's sound card has only one audio in connector and you wish to use your existing CD-ROM drive to play audio please skip to the next section of the Installation Guide.

  1. Locate the port marked "audio out" on the back of your ZipCD drive.

    Locate the port marked "ANALOG AUDIO OUT" on the back of your ZipCD drive. Connect your ZipCD audio cable to the drive.


    (Models may vary.)

    NOTE: Iomega provides the cable for the analog audio out connector only. Although the digital audio out (SP-DIF) connector provides better sound quality, it is not supported by many sound cards. Check your sound card's owner's manual for compatibility information.

  2. Locate the "audio in" port on your computer's audio in port.

    Find the connector labeled "CD" on your computer's sound card or motherboard. Connect the ZipCD audio cable to this port. If you have any doubts about the location of this port, please check the owner's manual for your computer or sound card. Port and sound card locations may differ from the illustrations below.

    Connect the ZipCD audio cable to your computer's motherboard.

    Connect the ZipCD audio cable to your computer's sound card.

    NOTE: Some sound card support multiple sound inputs. It may be possible to hook both your regular CD-ROM drive and the ZipCD drive into your sound card. Check your sound card's owner's manual for compatibility information.

Finishing the Installation of Your ZipCD Drive

  1. Check the following items before replacing the computer cover:

    • PIN 1 on the IDE interface cable matches the PIN 1 connector on your ZipCD internal drive.

    • The IDE interface cable is connected properly to all pins on your ZipCD drive.

    • An internal power supply cable from the computer has been connected to your ZipCD drive.

    • Your ZipCD drive has been securely mounted to your computer.

    Make sure the IDE interface cable is still connected properly at the hard drive or CD-ROM drive and the motherboard connections.

  1. Check all connections, arrange the cables to fit under the cover and, replace the computer cover:

  1. Reconnect power cord, turn ON power switch, and wait for the operating system to load.

    NOTE: When the operating system has loaded check either Windows® Explorer or My Computer to verify that your ZipCD drive has an icon. If the ZipCD icon does not appear, please see the troubleshooting section for help.
