Getting Started

NOTE: If you have not done so already, watch the install video. The ZipCD internal drive meets the latest ATAPI specifications; however, some computers with early ATAPI support do not meet these specifications and may not work correctly with removable ATAPI drives like the ZipCD internal drive. If the computer fails to boot correctly or hangs while booting after the ZipCD internal drive is installed, refer to the Troubleshooting section of this guide.

  1. Unpack the ZipCD Internal ATAPI drive.

CAUTION! Before handling the ZipCD internal drive, touch a grounded metal object (like an unpainted metal screw on the back of your computer) to discharge any buildup of personal static electricity.

    IDE Data Cable

    Drive Bay Mounting Screws (6-32)

NOTE: The ZipCD internal drive uses the computer's onboard IDE/ATA interface. See Understanding IDE/ATAPI Connections.

  2. Write down the serial number of your ZipCD Internal ATAPI drive for future reference.

You will need the serial number of your ZipCD internal drive for registration purposes or if you need to call technical support. The serial number is located on the label on your ZipCD drive. Write it down and keep it with your documentation.

  3. DISCONNECT the computer power cord and remove the cover.

Refer to your computer manual for more complete instructions. Some computers (especially tower models) require removing the computer's face plate as well as the cover to access the drive bays.

CAUTION! Always disconnect computer electrical power at power source before beginning a computer hardware change.

NOTE: Be aware that computers are arranged differently and that your computer may not look like the illustrations shown elsewhere in this manual.

Continue to the next step.
