The Zip ATAPI drive uses the computer's onboard IDE interface. Connect your Zip ATAPI drive as the slave device with your CD-ROM drive on the secondary IDE channel or as the only device on the secondary IDE channel. To review "slave drive" and "master drive" and IDE, see Understanding IDE/ATAPI Connections.
The instructions below explain how to connect your Zip drive to the same IDE channel as your CD-ROM drive. The Zip drive will function as a slave drive, while the CD-ROM functions as the master drive.
Print these instructions before you begin to take your computer apart.
If you have not installed your IomegaWare software, do so now. See Installing IomegaWare Software.
Write down the serial number of your Zip drive in the space provided in the Quick Install booklet. You will need the number for technical support.
Disconnect the computer power cord and remove the cover. Some computers require removing the computer's face plate as well as the cover to access the drive bays. Refer to your computer manual if the removal procedure is unclear.
CAUTION! Always disconnect computer at the power source before beginning a computer hardware change.

NOTE: Your computer may not look like the illustrations shown.
Check the jumper setting on the Zip drive. The Zip drive is set as the factory default to the "Slave" configuration indicating that another drive connected to the same IDE data cable will be the "Master." This is the way the Zip drive should be set to connect it to the secondary IDE channel with your CD-ROM drive. Verify that there is no jumper on the back of the Zip drive as shown in the illustration below. The jumper is a small plastic piece that surrounds two of the pins.
- Jumper Block (the slave factory setting has no jumper on pins)
- Jumper (shipped with the Zip drive)
