Jaz® Tips

Here are a few tips you'll want to keep in mind to care for your Jaz drive and disks!

  • Never open the disk door on a Jaz disk or drop a Jaz disk as this could damage the disk and cause data loss

  • Always make sure the outside of a Jaz® disk is free of dust and debris before inserting it into the drive. Use a lint-free, soft, dry cloth if you need to clean the outside of the disk.

  • Never put anything except genuine Jaz® disks into the Jaz drive as this could damage your drive and may affect your warranty.

  • Always return the Jaz® disk to its case when not in use, or not completely inserted into the Jaz drive.

  • Your Jaz® disk may feel warm to the touch when ejected from the drive. This is normal and does not affect proper operation or data on the disk.

  • Avoid exposure to dust, direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, moisture, and magnetic fields.

  • Always turn on power to the computer before inserting a Jaz® disk.

  • Never force a disk into or out of the drive.

  • Do not attempt to force a Jaz® 2GB disk into a Jaz 1GB drive.

  • To maximize Jaz® drive performance on a PC, connect it to an adapter that supports Ultra SCSI data transfers (such as the Jaz® Jet® PCI Ultra SCSI card) and use a 32-bit operating system (such as Windows 95/98, Windows NT 4.0).

  • To maximize Jaz® drive performance on a Macintosh, use an Ultra SCSI PCI (such as the Jaz Jet® PCI Ultra SCSI card) or a Nubus SCSI accelerator card.

  • Always remove the existing label before placing a new label on a Jaz® disk. Do not stack labels. Use only the Jaz disk labels that are available through the Jaz Accessories Guide, and make sure the label is placed within the recessed space on the top of the disk.

  • For best results, use a ball-point pen to write on the Jaz® disk label. Do not write on the label with pencil—graphite could flake off inside the drive.
