"ThunkConnect32 could not be located..." error message when installing Iomega® software in Windows® XP

The error message "GUEST95.EXE - Entry Point Not Found. The procedure entry point ThunkConnect32 could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32" appears when installing Iomega® software in Windows® XP. This error is caused by attempting to install an older version of the Iomega software, known as Iomega Tools, which was not designed to be used in Windows XP.

If the computer locks or will no longer boot after receiving this error message, follow the steps outlined in this document to remove the Iomega Tools software and repair Windows XP.


STEP ONE - Try using the 'Last Known Good Configuration'

  1. When the computer is booting, press F8 to bring up the Microsoft® startup menu.
     
  2. Select Last Known Good Configuration.
     
  3. If you can boot into the operating system using the last known good configuration option, uninstall the old version of the software.
     
    1. Click the Start button and choose Control Panels.
       
    2. Double-click the Change/Remove Software icon.
       
    3. Locate and highlight the Iomega software and click Remove.
       
  4. Click Start, select Shut Down and choose the option to restart the computer.
     
  5. Let the computer restart in a normal mode of Windows.
     
  6. Download and install the latest IomegaWare™ version from http://www.iomega.com/software/
     

    If the computer is no longer locking up and can boot into Windows, the problem has been resolved.

    If the computer continues to lock up or cannot boot, please continue with the next step.


STEP TWO - Run a repair installation of Windows XP

    For instructions on how to run a repair installation of Windows XP, please refer to the following Microsoft® Web article:

    If the computer is no longer locking up and can boot into Windows, the problem has been resolved.

    If the computer continues to lock up or cannot boot, please continue with the next step.


STEP THREE - Alternative Fix

  1. Restart Windows XP in Recovery Console mode.

  2. In the Recovery Console, type disable imgatapi to disable the Imgatapi service.
     
  3. Type enable ATAPI SERVICE_BOOT_START to enable the ATAPI service.
     
  4. Restart the computer.

    Important: If the Imgatapi service is disabled and the ATAPI service is not enabled, the error message "Stop 0x0000007B INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE" will appear.
