I cannot copy my floppy disk using the Iomega® CopyDisk™ utility
Document # 10763.html

CopyDisk™ replaces the standard disk copying utility that is provided by Windows® 98/95. The problem occurs when you make a single drive copy of a floppy disk. You will be prompted to insert the target disk so that the computer can check the disk for enough free space. The computer will use the serial number of both the target disk and source disk to prevent erasing the source disk data and to facilitate the copy process. If there is no serial number on the target disk or if the disk is unformatted, the computer will continue to ask for a target disk.

Usually, the target disk will be unformatted or the serial number may not be present. The best way to insure disk integrity is to format the disk.

To resolve this issue, please use the following steps:

  1. Double-click the My Computer icon.

  2. Place the target disk (the one to receive the copy) into the floppy drive.

  3. Right-click the floppy drive icon.

  4. Select Format from the drop-down menu.

  5. Select Quick Erase from the format options.

Warning: Formatting the floppy disk will permanently erase all data on the disk. Make certain that you format the target disk and not your source disk.

  6. Click Start to begin formatting the disk.

Note: You may specify a disk label if you choose to name the disk. Leaving the Label field blank will have no effect on the disk.

  7. Once the Format Results window appears, check that a serial number is listed.

    1. If no serial number is listed, go back and choose the Long Format Option.

    2. If a serial number is still not listed after a long format, the floppy disk may be defective. Try another floppy disk.
