Troubleshooting an Iomega® parallel port drive not detected with HP® LaserJet® 5L printer

The HP® LaserJet® 5L printer installs one of two ways. The default driver option known as 'host' and the 'PCL' driver option. The 'PCL' driver option is the one that needs to be installed. Follow these steps to accomplish this:

  1. Shut down your system, and turn off power to your computer.

  2. Disconnect your Iomega® parallel port drive and printer from your computer.

  3. Restart your computer to allow Windows to load.

  4. Click Start, point to Programs, HP LaserJet 5L, then click Uninstall.

  5. Follow the on-screen prompts to uninstall the printer software.

  6. Reinstall the printer software. When prompted, choose Install PCL driver alternative.

  7. Again, shut down your system and turn off power to your computer.

  8. Reconnect your Iomega parallel port drive and printer to your computer.

  9. Restart your computer and allow Windows to load.

Your Iomega drive is now ready to use.
