Troubleshooting an Iomega® parallel port drive not detected with HP® LaserJet® 4 series or Brother® 600 and 700 series printers
Document # 10394.html

The status monitor on the HP® Laserjet® 4 and Brother® 600 and 700 series printers, constantly monitors the parallel port of the computer and may display printer parameters and error messages. This may conflict with the Iomega® drive. Disabling the status monitor will not affect printing. The status monitor can usually be removed automatically with the following steps:

  1. Click Start then select Run.

  2. In the Open box, type C:\windows\dinstall -fdinstall.ins

  3. Click OK.

  4. Follow the on-screen instructions.

  5. Restart your computer.

If necessary, the status monitor can be removed manually by using the following steps:

  1. Click Start and select Run.

  2. In the Open box, type sysedit.

  3. Click the WIN.INI window to make it active.

  4. Locate the line that reads Load=HPSW.EXE.

  5. Place two semicolons (;;) at the beginning of the line.

  6. Click File, then Exit and Yes to save the changes.

  7. Restart your computer.

To re-enable the status monitor, remove the semi-colons. Your Iomega parallel port drive and printer should now function properly together.
