Troubleshooting an Iomega® parallel port drive not detected when attached to some HP®, Epson® and Lexmark® printers in Windows® 95/98/Me
Document # 10393.html

Many printers such as HP®, Epson® and Lexmark® brand maintain bi-directional communication between the computer and printer. This can cause a conflict while trying to use your Iomega® parallel port drive. To allow your printer to work with your Iomega drive you may disable the bi-directional communications between the computer and printer. Follow the steps below to accomplish this:

  1. Click Start, select Settings and click Printers.

  2. Right-click your printer icon and select Properties.

  3. Click the Details tab.

  4. Click the Spool Settings button.

  5. Click Disable bi-directional support for this printer.

  6. Click OK.

  7. Click OK.

If this solution does not allow your Iomega parallel port drive to be detected, you may have to disable the printer to allow your computer to work with your Iomega drive. Follow these steps to accomplish this:

Note: If you disable the printer you will not be able to print until the printer is re-enabled.

  1. Double-click the My Computer icon.

  2. Double-click the Printers folder.

  3. Right-click your printer icon and select Properties.

  4. Click the Details tab.

  5. In the drop-down box that says Print to the following port, select FILE: (Creates a file on disk).

  6. Click OK.

  7. Restart your computer for changes to take place.
