Troubleshooting an Iomega® parallel port drive not detected with the HP® LaserJet® 6L SE printer

The HP® LaserJet® 6L SE printer requires bi-directional communication with the computer for normal operation. This interferes with the Iomega® drive's ability to communicate normally through the parallel port. To work around this, you can disable the status monitor for the printer. Follow the steps below to accomplish this:


Disable the status monitor
  1. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del at the same time to open the Close Program dialog box.

  2. Highlight hpwiomon.

  3. Click End Task.


Next perform the following steps:
  1. Click Start.

  2. Select Find.

  3. Click Files or Folders.

  4. In the Named box type hpwiomon.exe.

  5. Click Find Now.

  6. When the file is found, right-click the filename and select Rename.

  7. Rename hpwiomon.exe to hpwpsw.bak.
