Troubleshooting when installing an Iomega® parallel port drive with the HP® LaserJet® 6L printer

The HP® LaserJet® 6L printer requires bi-directional communication with the computer for normal operation. This interferes with the Iomega® drive's ability to communicate normally through the parallel port. A work-a-round solution is to disable the status monitor for the printer. You may follow the steps below to accomplish this:


Disable the status monitor
  1. Press Ctrl, Alt, Del at the same time to open the Close Program dialog box.

  2. Highlight hpwpsw.

  3. Click End Task.

Next perform the following steps:

  1. Click Start, select Find, then click Files or Folders.

  2. In the Named box type hpwpsw.exe.

  3. Click Find Now.

  4. When the file is found, right-click the filename and select Rename.

  5. Rename hpwpsw.exe to hpwpsw.bak.
