How do I temporarily use my Zip® parallel port drive on another computer? Document # 10233.html
Guest is a program used to assign a drive letter to your Iomega® drive. There are two versions of the Guest software - the Guest version used to assign a drive letter in DOS and the Guest version used to assign a drive letter in Windows® 3.1x or Windows 95/98. Guest is not compatible nor is it necessary with operating systems newer than Windows 98.
Select your operating system and follow the steps below to install your Zip® parallel port drive on another computer using an IomegaWare CD.
Install your Zip parallel port drive in Windows
The version of Guest that runs in Windows automatically installed the drivers needed to use your drive. The Windows version of Guest is no longer available for download for the following reasons:
It only works in the Windows 95 and Windows 98 operating systems.
The drivers installed by Guest are old drivers.
Guest only worked with the following Iomega drives:
Zip 100MB and 250MB Parallel Port
Zip 100MB and 250MB SCSI (internal and external)
Zip 100MB and 250MB ATAPI
Jaz 1GB and 2GB SCSI (internal and external)
Jaz 1GB and 2GB Parallel Port (Jaz Traveller required)
Iomega has replaced the Windows version of Guest with newer drivers that are available for download.
STEP ONE - Download the latest Iomega drivers
The latest drivers, except for the Windows 98 driver, will fit on a floppy and will install in the following operating systems:
Windows 95/98
Windows ME
Windows NT®
Note: The Iomega drivers are already included in Windows XP and a driver download is not necessary.
Important! If you need a driver for Windows 98 to fit on a floppy, download the Windows 95 driver instead.
In the gray menu bar at the top, click Software Listing.
Select PC in the platform drop-down menu.
Select Drivers only in the category drop-down menu.
Click Find.
Locate the operating system you are using and click the Download Now link next to the driver.
Choose the option to Save to disk.
Save the software to your Windows desktop.
STEP TWO - Install the Iomega driver
Follow the steps below to install the drivers on your system.
Locate the downloaded driver file.
Double-click the file and follow the on-screen prompts.
Restart the computer when prompted.
Install your Zip parallel port drive in DOS or Windows 3.x
The DOS Guest drivers allow you to temporarily install a Zip parallel port drive in either DOS or Windows 3.x. You should not use the Iomega® DOS Guest drivers to install an Iomega drive in Windows 95 and higher.
