Thomson’s Grass Valley™ division and Iomega established a joint technology development agreement mid-2005. This led to the integration of Iomega’s REV technology into various Grass Valley products in a move to overcome the limitations of tape and today’s removable storage solutions; as well as make standards-based, affordable storage media and workflows broadly accessible to the professional video and audio (ProAV) industry.

Grass Valley Infinity™ Series

Iomega REV PRO technology built into the Grass Valley Infinity™ Series includes a Digital Media Camcorder and Digital Media Recorder for the broadcast and production industries. REV PRO is based on the same media and drives as standard REV products, but is designed to handle the rigorous needs of day-to-day field use. It offers greater temperature ranges, can be used at higher altitudes, offers increased number of cartridge insertions, improves vibration handling, and includes multi-stream performance – giving professionals the reliable performance they expect.

Grass Valley Turbo™ iDDR

The Grass Valley Turbo™ iDDR is designed specifically for event, corporate, institutional, and worship production. The iDDR with REV built-in offers a removable media device with high-speed and large storage capacity (holding more than two hours of 25 Mb/s SD or HD video) at an affordable price. This allows customers to streamline their content transfer workflows by eliminating video tape for archiving and distributing file-based content.

Grass Valley offers REV PRO drives and removable media

Grass Valley is also offering REV PRO drives and removable media to give the professional industry the portability and cost-effectiveness of videotape—and the speed, flexibility, and ease of use of true nonlinear media like hard disks. REV drives and disks offer standards-based, high-capacity, inexpensive, durable, and readily available media that provides true nonlinear random access.

The REV drive and removable disk media are also robust and extremely durable; its long-term archival capability is estimated at more than 30 years.

The combination of REV technology and Grass Valley products is opening up many unique, powerful applications within the broadcast and ProAV markets.
