Document # 30090.html

Iomega® CD-RW (ZipCD™) drives work with two types of media, CD-RW and CD-R, which can be used for different CD recording purposes. The chart below can help you choose the right media and application for the type of CD you want to create.

Note: Iomega has tested numerous brands of media for compatibility with Iomega CD-RW (ZipCD) drives. To view the Iomega recommended media list, click here or go to http://www.iomega.com/europe/support/english/documents/10706e.html

Note: All Iomega CD-RW (ZipCD) drives are capable of writing to 700MB or 80 minute CD-R media. However, you may receive an error message stating that there is not enough space on the disc while trying to create a CD larger than 650MB or 74 minutes when using Easy CD Creator. Ignore the message and proceed with the CD creation process to create your CD.

CD-R disc advantages:

  • Good for permanent data storage (discs cannot be erased).

  • Less expensive per CD than CD-RW discs.

  • Readable on virtually all CD-ROM and CD-R drives.

  • Can be used in most home or car stereo CD players.

CD-RW disc advantages:

  • Allows you to erase data and rewrite new information.

  • Ideal for backup, sharing files with colleagues and transporting files between computers.

  • Allows you to make a practice CD or test the contents of a CD before making a permanent one.
