If you are using DOS 6.x or Windows® 3.1x
- If you are using Windows, exit to the DOS prompt.
- Reboot the computer.
- When the message Starting MS-DOS appears, press the F8 key.
- A prompt to confirm each CONFIG.SYS line will appear. Answer Y to FILES=xx, BUFFERS=xx, any disk compression drivers to access the hard disk drive, and C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS (if you are using Windows). Answer N to all others.
If you are using DOS 5.0 or lower
- Insert a blank diskette into the A: drive of the computer.
- At the C:\> prompt, type FORMAT A: \S, then press the Enter key.
- Once the format is complete, press the Enter key until a C:\> prompt appears.
- At the C:\> prompt, type EDIT A:\CONFIG.SYS then press the Enter key.
- Add the following lines:
FILES=20
BUFFERS=30
any disk compression drivers to access the hard drive, and C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS (if you are using Windows).
- Select File then Exit and save the changes when prompted.
- Reboot the computer leaving the diskette in drive A:.
If you are using Windows 98/95
- Restart your computer with a blank floppy disk in drive A:.
- When you get a non-system disk error message, eject the floppy disk from drive A: and press the F8 key twice.
- From the Windows 98/95 Startup menu, choose Safe Mode Command Prompt Only.
If the problem persists, it is most likely with hardware. If the problem is resolved, then a software conflict is present. These boot sequences only load the drivers required by Iomega Tools. Once the computer has been reset and allowed to boot normally, all drivers are loaded back into memory.
