How do I use the REV disk Access (Read/Write) Protection option?
Document # 13011.html

The Access (read/write) protection option creates a password protected disk that will prevent unauthorized users from adding, deleting, editing, or viewing your files. Follow the steps below to enable or disable Access Protection.

Note: Unauthorized users will still be able to long format the disk. Make sure you always have a backup copy of your data.

Setting Access (Read/Write) Protection

  1. Insert the disk you want to protect into your REV drive.

  2. Right-click the REV drive icon in My Computer or Windows Explorer.

  3. Select Access Protection from the drive shortcut menu.

  4. A dialogue window will display. Select Enable Access Protection. Enter and verify a password.

  5. Select OK to enable the access protection. The disk will then be automatically ejected from the REV™ drive. Access Protection will be activated when you reinsert the REV disk.

Note: Remember the password. If you forget your password, your data cannot be recovered, not even by Iomega®. You must long format the disk before you can use it again.

Note: An Access Protected REV disk cannot be used as a bootable disk.

Removing Access (Read/Write) Protection

  1. Insert the disk you want to unprotect into your REV drive.

  2. Right-click the REV drive icon in My Computer or Windows Explorer.

  3. Select Access Protection from the drive shortcut menu.

  4. A dialogue window will display. Enter your password and then select one of the following unprotect options:

Note: If you forgot your password, your data cannot be recovered. You must long format the disk before you can use it again.

    Suspend access protection
This temporarily removes protection from the disk so you can read and write files to the disk. Protection will be suspended until you either eject the disk or turn off your computer.

    Remove access protection
This fully removes access protection from your disk, so a password will no longer be required to access the disk.

  5. Select OK.
