How do I create a DVD or VCD movie from a digital or analog video device using MyDVD™?
Document # 11869.html

Please use the following steps to capture video from a digital or analog video device and burn it to a DVD or VCD disc.

Note: A video capture device/card must be used if you want to transfer video from an analog source, such as a VCR, to MyDVD™. For a list of approved video capture devices/cards, please go to http://www.mydvd.com/common/video.asp

  1. Open the Sonic MyDVD software.

  2. From the left side of the Welcome to Sonic™ MyDVD window, choose either DVD-Video or VCD-Video.

  3. Under Select a Project Type, select either the option to Create or Modify a DVD-Video Project or Create or Modify a Video CD Project.

  4. From the left side of the project window, click the Capture icon.

  5. Click the Next button.

  6. You will now be prompted to insert the media you would like to use (if you have not already done so). A Checking Media window will appear and then close once the media is detected.

  7. The capture window will now appear.

  8. Under the Record Setting section, click the Change button.

  9. Under the Video section, use the Device drop-down to select the device you are using. If the Configure button appears to the right after you select the device you are using, then MyDVD cannot set up your video capture device automatically. You will need to click the Configure button to set up the device manually. Please refer to the 'Video capture device settings' section of the Sonic Help files for information on recommended capture device settings.

  10. If the video device has more than one input source (such as Composite and S-Video input), select the correct input source from the drop-down list. If you are unsure, check your video capture card connections to see which input to choose.

  11. If available, choose the options you would like from the Audio Settings section.

  12. Under Record Settings, select the Record settings you would like and then select the Quality.

  13. If you choose, enable the option to Disable preview during video capture (may improve capture quality with certain capture cards) and then click the OK button.

  14. If you are recording from a digital device, use the buttons under the preview window to control the device and browse to the location you want to record. If you are using an analog VCR or camcorder, use the controls on the device to browse to the location you want to record.

Note: If you are recording from an analog tape of camcorder, you will should start the tape a few seconds before you start capturing the video.

  15. Under the Start Capturing button below the preview window, place a check mark in the box next to Add Clip To Menu.

  16. If you are using a digital device, click the Start Capturing button. If you are using an analog device, start playing the tape and then press the Start Capturing button.

  17. When you are finished capturing, click Stop Capturing. If you are using an analog device, use the device to stop playing the tape also.

Note: The video and audio are captured together and will be saved as one file.

  18. Once the Save As window appears, enter a name for the captured video clip and then click the Save button.

  19. Click the Done button. The project window will now open.

  20. The clip will now be added to the project window.

  21. If you want to capture additional video, use the capture window to continue capturing clips until you are finished and then click the Done button. The project window will now open.

  22. From the options bar towards the top of the project window, select Edit Style. From here you can change the text, menu and music options and also change the background and button styles and colors. Click OK to save any changes.

  23. If you decide you want to change the name of a clip you captured, click the name below the button and then type in the name you would like to use.

  24. If you would like to see how the clips you captured look as a DVD, click the Preview button at the bottom of the project window. You should now be able to view your project as a fully functional DVD. Click Stop to end the preview.

  25. If you are satisfied, click the Burn button at the bottom of the project window.

  26. If you are prompted to save your project, click Yes. Enter a name for your project and click Save.

  27. From the Disc Setup window, select your drive and the number of copies you want and then click OK.

  28. MyDVD is now ready to turn captured video clips into a DVD or VCD disc. A progress bar will appear at the bottom of the project window. If you need to cancel the process, click Cancel.

Important: DVD and VCD creation is a very slow process because all of the captured video and audio has to be converted. Depending upon the amount of video captured, the DVD creation project can take anywhere from several minutes to several hours. Please be patient.

  29. Once your DVD or VCD is burned successfully, you can now play your disc using the CinePlayer™ software that came with your Iomega® drive or with your home DVD player.

If you experience problems playing the DVD or VCD discs you create, please refer to document http://www.iomega.com//europe/support/english/documents/11742e.html for information on where the discs you create can be played. For additional information on creating DVDs, VCDs and the options that are available, please refer to the MyDVD Tutorials or Help files.
