How do I use the Transfer Video Direct-To-DVD™ option in MyDVD™ to create a DVD or VCD movie
Document # 11868.html

Please use the following steps to use the Transfer Video Direct-To-DVD™ option in MyDVD™ to capture video from a digital or analog video device and burn it to a DVD or VCD disc.

Note: A video capture device/card must be used if you want to transfer video from an analog source, such as a VCR, to MyDVD. For a list of approved video capture devices/cards, please go to http://www.mydvd.com/common/video.asp

Important: Depending upon the amount of video captured, the DVD creation project can take anywhere from several minutes to several hours. You should not start a video project if you need to have access to your computer.

  1. Ensure that your digital device is connected to the computer or analog device is connected to a video capture device or card connected to the computer.

  2. Open the MyDVD software.

  3. From the left side of the Welcome to Sonic™ MyDVD window, ensure that either DVD-Video or VCD-Video is selected and then select the Transfer Video Direct-To-DVD project.

  4. Next to option 1, click the Edit style button to select menu styles and options. Click OK to close the Edit Style window when you are finished.

  5. Next to option 2, use the open text box to type in a name for your project.

  6. Next to option 3, select the destination device and the number of copies that need to be made. If recording to DVD or VCD, ensure that the appropriate recording device is selected and that you have specified the number of copies that need to be made. If recording to your hard drive, select the location where you want the file stored.

  7. Click the Next button.

  8. You will now be prompted to insert the media you would like to use (if you have not already done so). A Checking Media window will appear and then close once the media is detected.

  9. The capture window will now appear.

  10. Under the Record Setting section, click the Change button.

  11. Under the Video section, use the Device drop-down to select the device you are using.

  12. If the Configure button appears to the right after you select the device you are using, then MyDVD cannot set up your video capture device automatically. You will need to click the Configure button to set up the device manually. Please refer to the 'Video capture device settings' section of the Sonic Help files for information on recommended capture device settings.

  13. If the video device has more than one input source (such as Composite and S-Video input), select the correct input source from the drop-down list. If you are unsure, check your video capture card connections to see which input to choose.

  14. If available, choose the options you would like from the Audio and Record Settings sections and then click the OK button.

  15. If you are recording from a digital device, use the buttons under the preview window to control the device and browse to the location you want to record. If you are using an analog VCR or camcorder, use the controls on the device to browse to the location you want to record.

Note: If you are recording from an analog tape of camcorder, you will should start the tape a few seconds before you start capturing the video.

  16. Under the Start Capturing button below the preview window, place a check mark in the box next to Add Clip To Menu.

  17. If you are using a digital device, click the Start Capturing button. If you are using an analog device, start playing the tape and then press the Start Capturing button.

  18. When you are finished capturing, click Stop Capturing. If you are using an analog device, use the buttons on the device to stop the device.

Note: The video and audio are captured together and will be saved as one file.

  19. Now MyDVD will take the captured video and added it to a project window and burned to your disc.

Important: DVD and VCD creation is a very slow process because all of the captured video and audio has to be converted. Depending upon the amount of video captured, the DVD creation project can take anywhere from several minutes to several hours. Please be patient.

  20. Once your DVD or VCD is burned successfully, you can now play your disc using the CinePlayer™ software that came with your Iomega® drive or with your home DVD player.

If you experience problems playing the DVD or VCD discs you create, please refer to document http://www.iomega.com//europe/support/english/documents/11742e.html for information on where the discs you create can be played. For additional information on creating DVDs, VCDs and the options that are available, please refer to the MyDVD Tutorials or Help files.
