Follow these general guidelines when handling all Recordable and ReWritable CD or DVD discs:
- Avoid exposing the discs to extreme temperatures or direct sunlight.
- Always place the discs in their protective cases when not in use to avoid scratches.
- Do not use alcohol-based or ballpoint pens to write on the discs; the ink might eventually damage your data. Instead, use oil-based or permanent felt tip markers.
- Do not stack discs together, doing so might damage the discs.
- Use a rotation plan for your backup discs-Keep at least two discs with your Iomega DVD+RW drive and rotate them daily. Keep an additional disc in another location to protect against fire or flood and rotate this copy weekly.
- Check your files-Periodically explore your backup CDs to verify that you have archived all of the files you need to keep.
- Clean your discs-Clean dirty discs with a soft, dry cloth and a commercial disc cleaner. Wipe in a straight line from the center of your disc to the outer edge with the soft cloth. Never clean a disc using a circular motion. This will damage the disc.
