How do I know which Iomega® DVD application to use and with what media?

The following recommendations are based on ease of use and best media compatibility. Each listed software title is available on the Solutions CD that came with your Iomega® DVD drive. For more information on any of the listed software, either open the software and use the software help or browse the Iomega Support site.

    Important: The DVD+RW drive cannot write to DVD-R or DVD-RW discs. Be sure to purchase the DVD discs with "+" in their name.

CD-R / DVD+R / DVD-R discs:

Enable you to permanently store data in a format that is readable on virtually all CD-ROM and DVD-ROM drives. This information is stored permanently on the CD or DVD and cannot be erased.

Advantages

  • Good for permanent data storage (discs cannot be erased).

  • Less expensive per disc.

  • Readable on virtually all DVD-ROM, CD-ROM and CD-RW drives.

  • CD-R can be used in most home or car stereo CD players.

  • DVD+R and DVD-R can be used in most DVD home players.

Disadvantages

  • Disc space cannot be reused.

CD-RW / DVD+RW / DVD-RW / DVD-RAM discs:

CD-RW discs enable you to temporarily store data in a format that may not be readable on some older CD-ROM and DVD-ROM drives. This information is only stored temporarily on the CD and can be changed or erased.

DVD+RW and DVD-RW discs enable you to temporarily store data in a format that may not be readable on some older DVD home players. This information is only stored temporarily on the DVD and can be changed or erased.

DVD-RAM discs enable you to temporarily store data in a format that may not be readable on some older DVD-ROM drives and are not readable by DVD home players.

Advantages

  • Allows you to erase data and rewrite new information.

  • Ideal for backup.

  • Allows you to make a practice disc or test the contents of a disc before making a permanent one.

Disadvantages

  • CD-RW and DVD-RAM discs are incompatible with most stereo CD players.

  • DVD+RW and DVD-RW discs are less compatible with most DVD home players.
