The error message "Unable to create privacy zone" appears when using the Iomega® Mini Lock software to create a privacy zone. A privacy zone is a secure area on the Iomega Mini USB drive that can only be accessed using a password.
There are two possible solutions to try when receiving this error message.
SOLUTION ONE - Disable the write-protection on the drive
This error message can occur when the Iomega Mini drive has write protection enabled. Follow the steps below to disable the write-protection on the drive.
- Open the Iomega Mini Control Panel software.
- Click the Wrench icon on the control panel.
- Click Disable Write Protection.

- Try creating a privacy zone with the Iomega Mini Lock software.
SOLUTION TWO - Remove the Iomega Mini Control Panel software from the drive
This error message will only occur when the Iomega Mini Lock software and the Iomega Mini Control Panel software are being ran from the Iomega Mini USB drive. To resolve this error message:
- Double-click the My Computer icon.
- Double-click the drive letter assigned to the Iomega Mini USB drive.
- Drag the minicontrolpanel-w32-x86-3.exe file to the desktop.
- If the Iomega Mini Control Panel is open, right-click the Mini Control Panel icon in the Systray and click Exit.
- Delete the minicontrolpanel-w32-x86-3.exe file and the My Profile folder from the Iomega Mini USB drive.
- Double-click the minicontrolpanel-w32-x86-3.exe file you dragged to the desktop and install the Mini Lock and the Mini Control Panel software.
- Try creating a privacy zone with the Iomega Mini Lock software.
