Adaptec® Easy CD Creator versions 3.x and 4.x are not compatible with Windows® XP and may cause the error message "Devices or applications disabled. Applications or devices on this computer use devices that will cause Windows to become unstable. Windows has prevented these drivers from loading. CD recording software will cause windows to become unstable"
If you installed Easy CD Creator 3.x or 4.x in Windows XP, please use the following steps to uninstall the software and repair your system.
STEP ONE - Rename the Easy CD Creator files
- Click Start, choose Search and select For Files and Folders.
- Under Look in, ensure that the computer's hard drive is selected.
- In the text box under Search for files or folders named, type in one of the file names listed below:
- cdralw2k.sys
- cdr4_2k.sys
- cdudf.sys
- udfreader.sys
- Click the Search Now button.
- Once the file is found, rename the file with a .old extension.
- Continue using steps C through E above to rename all of the files listed.
- Continue with the next step.
STEP TWO - Manually remove the Easy CD Creator software
- Open Windows Explorer.
- Double-click the C: drive (or the drive letter of your computer's hard drive).
- Double-click the Program Files folder.
- Right-click the Adaptec folder and choose Delete.
