CD-RW, DVD+RW and DVD-RW media is re-writable. If the disc is formatted, you can use it just like a Zip® disk or any other removable media disk. This means that you can erase information from and write information to the disc. You cannot erase CD-R, DVD+R or DVD-R discs.
Important: Files and folders can only be deleted individually when saved on a formatted CD-RW, DVD+RW or DVD-RW disc. For information on how to tell if your disc is formatted, please go to http://www.iomega.com/europe/support/english/documents/11426e.html
Note : HotBurn does not erase DVD-RAM discs, even though the Erase button may appear when a blank DVD-RAM disc is inserted in the drive. DVD-RAM discs must be formatted instead.
When you erase a CD-RW, DVD+RW or DVD-RW disc, you erase all of the information on the disc. If the disc you erase is formatted, then the formatting on the disc will also be erased. Once erased, the data and formatting that was once on the disc cannot be recovered.
Please use the following steps to use HotBurn® or HotBurn Pro to either erase individual files from a formatted disc (removes the data, keeps the formatting) or to erase an entire formatted or unformatted disc (removes all data and, if present, the formatting).
Erase individual files from the CD-RW, DVD+RW or DVD-RW disc:
- Insert the CD-RW disc that you want to erase into your CD-RW drive.
- Right-click the file(s) or folder(s) you want to erase and select Delete.
The data has now been removed and the disc has remained formatted for future drag and drop use.
Erase the entire CD-RW, DVD+RW or DVD-RW disc:
Important: This will erase the formatting on the disc. You will not be able to drag and drop information to the disc unless it is formatted.
- Select a project type (Music CD, Data CD or CD Copy).
- Click the Erase button on the HotBurn console.
- Select the type of erase function you would like to use:
Quick Erase - This process can take up to approximately 1 minute.
Full Erase - This process can take up to approximately 74 minutes.
- HotBurn will warn you that you are about to erase the CD and that all the information on the disc will be lost. Click Yes.
All of the data and formatting has now been removed. Remember, the disc must be formatted if you want to drag and drop information to the disc.
