If the Iomega® Mini USB drive is not assigned a drive letter in My Computer or Windows Explorer, follow the steps outlined in this document to troubleshoot the issue.
Important: The Iomega Mini Drive is only supported in the following Windows operating systems: 98 / 98SE / 2000 / Me / XP.
STEP ONE - Install the driver (Windows® 98 & 98 SE only)
Note: If you are using an operating system other than Windows 98, please proceed to STEP TWO
The driver is included in all operating systems except Windows 98 & 98 SE. The following steps explain how to obtain and install the driver in Windows 98 and 98 SE.
- Disconnect the Iomega Mini USB drive from the computer.
- Download the driver from
http://www.iomega.com/software/index_en.html and save the file to the desktop.
- Once the download has completed, double-click the file on the desktop to begin installation.
- Follow the on-screen installation prompts.
- Once the installation is complete, connect the Mini USB drive to the computer.
- Double-click the My Computer icon and verify the Mini USB drive is assigned a drive letter.
If the Iomega Mini USB drive is assigned a letter, installing the USB drivers in Windows 98 and 98 SE resolved your problem.
If the Iomega Mini USB drive is still not detected or you are using an operating system other than Windows 98, please continue with the next step.
STEP TWO - Verify the drive connections
- Disconnect all USB devices from the computers USB port, including all hubs and the Iomega Mini USB drive.
- Connect the Iomega Mini USB drive directly to the USB port of the computer.
- Double-click the My Computer icon and verify the Mini USB drive is assigned a letter.
If the Iomega Mini USB drive is assigned a letter, there is a cabling issue.
If the Iomega Mini USB drive is not assigned a letter, please continue with the next step.
STEP THREE - Verify the USB controllers are recognized by the operating system
Windows Me/98/98 SE
- Right-click the My Computer icon and choose Properties.
- Click the Device Manager tab.
- Click the plus (+) next to USB Controllers and make it a minus (-).
- Verify the USB controllers appear and do not have a yellow exclamation mark on them.
If the USB controllers are not shown or have yellow exclamation marks on them, your USB controllers are not working properly. please contact your computer manufacturer for assistance.
If the USB controllers appear with no exclamation marks, please continue with the next step.
Windows 2000/XP
- Right-click the My Computer icon and choose Manage.
Note : It may be necessary to click Start to access the My Computer icon in Windows XP.
- Click Device Manager.
- Click the plus (+) next to USB Controllers and make it a minus (-).
- Verify the USB controllers appear and do not have a yellow exclamation mark on them.
If the USB controllers are not shown or have yellow exclamation marks on them, your USB controllers are not working properly. please contact your computer manufacturer for assistance.
If the USB controllers appear with no exclamation marks, please continue with the next step.
STEP FOUR - Try the Iomega Mini USB drive on another computer
If the Iomega Mini USB drive is not being detected at this point, it is important to try connecting the drive to another computer. This will determine whether the drive is functioning correctly or not.
