"Please insert a CD with sufficient space" error message when trying to use Easy CD Creator
Document # 11501e.html

Please select the type of disc you are using (this will be either on the disc or disc packaging):

    CD-R disc | CD-RW disc

CD-R Disc

This error message generally indicates that there is not enough free space available to burn information to the CD-R disc. In some cases, however, it may indicate that the CD-RW drive is not correctly reading the free space from the disc. To help resolve this error message, check the following:

  • If this error occurs sometime after beginning the burn, this may indicate that there is not enough free space on the hard drive (the software may be attempting to cache data into temp files on the hard drive). Try emptying the Windows Temp folder and the Recycle Bin to free up hard drive space.

  • If the error occurs immediately after beginning the burn, this may indicate that there is not enough free space on the disc. Keep in mind that some free space is required on the disc in addition to the actual amount of information being burned. There needs to be enough space on the disc for the software to close the CD and/or to write any other files needed for the CD to be read properly. For instance, a 700MB CD-R disc will not be able to store a full 700MB of information. If the amount of information being burned to the disc is very close to the capacity of the disc, try removing a few files to allow enough space for the disc to close, etc.

  • Use high quality media. Low or poor quality media may not be detected properly by the CD-RW drive or software. Please go to http://www.iomega.com/europe/support/english/documents/10706e.html for a list of media tested by Iomega®.

  • Using the Disc-at-Once mode when creating your CDs may reduce the amount of space needed to close the disc and can help eliminate this error.

  • A CD must be closed in order to be played on most home or car stereo systems. If the disc has been closed by the software, you will not be able to burn additional information to the disc. If you have burned any information to the disc, even if it is just one song, use another disc.

  • Ensure that you have placed a blank CD into the CD-RW drive and that you are giving the CD-RW drive enough time to spin up and recognize the disc.

  • Updating the drive's firmware may help the drive correctly report free space available on the disc. Please visit the Iomega Software Download site at http://www.iomega.com/software/ to check for firmware updates for your drive.
