What should I do if the Adaptec® (Roxio™) Easy CD Creator™ software does not detect my Iomega® CD-RW (ZipCD™ 650) drive?

Please use the following steps if the Adaptec® (Roxio™) Easy CD Creator™ software does not detect your Iomega® CD-RW (ZipCD™ 650) drive.

STEP ONE - Ensure that the operating system is detecting your CD-RW drive

To check to see if the CD-RW drive is being detected by the operating system, double-click the My Computer icon on the desktop (Windows® XP users may need to click Start to access My Computer) and verify that an icon for your CD-RW drive is present.

    If the operating system detects your CD-RW drive, please continue with the next step, STEP TWO

    If the operating system does not detect your drive, please go to New Web Page Iconhttp://www.iomega.com/europe/support/english/documents/11083e.html

STEP TWO - Download the latest Easy CD Creator updates

Because this is Adaptec (Roxio) software, Iomega is unable to provide software downloads from our Web site. Please go to the Adaptec (Roxio) Web site at http://www.roxio.com/en/support/roxio_support/software_updates.jhtml and download the latest updates available for the version of Easy CD Creator you are using. If you have the latest updates, please proceed to STEP THREE

After you have installed the latest updates, open the Easy CD Creator software to see if your CD-RW drive is detected.

    If your CD-RW drive is detected, you can now use the drive.

    If your CD-RW drive is not detected, please continue with the next step.

STEP THREE - Uninstall any other CD creation software installed on your computer

Other CD Creation software can conflict with Easy CD Creator. Please uninstall any other CD Creation software that is on your computer, such as HotBurn, Nero, etc. If you do not have other CD creation software installed, please proceed to STEP FOUR

After the other CD creation software is uninstalled, open the Easy CD Creator software to see if your CD-RW drive is detected.

    If your CD-RW drive is detected, you can now use the drive.

    If your CD-RW drive is not detected, please continue with the next step.

STEP FOUR - Reboot your computer

Your computer must be rebooted after installing the Easy CD Creator software. If you did not reboot your computer or if you are not sure if the computer was rebooted after the software was installed, please reboot your computer at this time.

Open the Easy CD Creator software to see if your CD-RW drive is detected.

    If your CD-RW drive is detected, you can now use the drive.

    If your CD-RW drive is not detected, please continue with the next step.

STEP FIVE - Update your USB or FireWire drivers

ATAPI CD-RW drive users: please proceed to STEP EIGHT

    If you are using an Iomega brand USB CD-RW drive in Windows 98 or if you are using an Iomega brand FireWire CD-RW drive in Windows 98/Me, please continue using the information in this step. All other Iomega drive customers, please proceed to STEP SIX

Please go to the Iomega Software Download site at http://www.iomega.com/software/listing/_98.html?platform=PC&url=%2Fsoftware%2Flisting%2F_98.html&submit=Find

Iomega CD-RW 4x4x6 or ZipCD 650 4x4x6 USB drive customers using Windows 98: please scroll down the list until you find "USB Driver". Download and install this driver.

All other USB or FireWire drive customers using Windows 98 or Me: please scroll down the list until you find "USB and FireWire (1394) update module". Download and install this update.

    If your CD-RW drive is detected, you can now use the drive.

    If your CD-RW drive is not detected, please continue with the next step.

STEP SIX - Ensure that you have installed the latest firmware update for your drive

Ensure that your drive has the latest firmware update installed. Firware updates can be obtain from most CD-RW manufacturer's Web sites.

    If you are using an Iomega CD-RW drive, please go to http://www.iomega.com/software/ and use the wizard to select your product, OS and language to see if any firmware updates are available for your drive. If a firmware update is not available for your drive, proceed to STEP SEVEN

Once the latest firmware has been installed, open the Easy CD Creator software to see if your CD-RW drive is detected.

    If your CD-RW drive is detected, you can now use the drive.

    If your CD-RW drive is not detected, please continue with the next step.

STEP SEVEN - Ensure that your system has the latest USB chipset drivers

Note: If you are not using a USB drive, please proceed to STEP EIGHT

Ensure that your system has the latest USB chipset drivers installed. Please use the following steps to help determine your computer's USB chipset manufacturer.

  1. Right-click the My Computer icon and select Properties (Windows XP/2000 users should right-click the My Computer icon and select Manage).

  2. Click the Device Manager tab or icon.

  3. Click the plus (+) sign next to Universal Serial Bus Controllers.

    Note: If Universal Serial Bus Controllers is not listed, there is a problem with the USB controller or the USB controller is not enabled in the computer's BIOS. Please contact the computer manufacturer for information on how to fix or enable the USB controller.

  4. Under Universal Serial Bus Controllers, a Universal Host Controller and/or an Enhanced Host Controller should be listed. The name listed for the controller should be the manufacturer of the USB chipset. Please refer to the illustration below.

As shown in the illustration above, the first one listed is an Adaptec USB chipset (add-in USB 2.0 card) and the second one listed is an Intel USB chipset (built-in USB 1.1 card). Using the information provided on how to find the manufacturer name, please contact the chipset manufacturer for updated drivers. Some common USB manufacturers are:

Once the latest USB chipset drivers are installed, open the Easy CD Creator software to see if your CD-RW drive is detected.

    If your CD-RW drive is detected, you can now use the drive.

    If your CD-RW drive is not detected, please continue with the next step.

STEP EIGHT - Uninstall and reinstall the Easy CD Creator software

    Uninstall

    1. Ensure that the CD-RW drive is connected to the computer.

      Windows Me users: Click Start, Settings, Control Panel and double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.

      Windows XP/2000 users: Click Start, Control Panel and double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon. Select Change or Remove Programs on the left hand side of the Add/Remove Programs window.

    2. Click one of the following files to highlight (all of these files may not be present on your system):

      • Iomega CD-RW

      • Iomega ZipCD Support Files

      • Adaptec DirectCD

      • Adaptec Easy CD Creator

    3. Click the Add/Remove or Change/Remove button.

    4. Follow the instructions as they appear on the screen to uninstall the software. If prompted, do not restart the computer at this time.

      Note: If the Adaptec software will not uninstall or if you encounter errors, please go to New Web Page Iconhttp://www.iomega.com/europe/support/english/documents/10949e.html

    5. Continue using steps B through D above to remove all of the files listed. If none of the other files listed are present, please continue.

    6. Close the Add/Remove Programs window.

    7. If prompted, click Yes or OK to restart the computer. If not prompted, restart the computer at this time.

    8. Continue with the next step.

    Reinstall

    1. Insert the CD that contains the Easy CD Creator software into the CD-ROM drive.

    2. Follow the instructions as they appear on the screen to reinstall the software.

      Note: If the Adaptec software will not reinstall or if you encounter errors, please go to New Web Page Iconhttp://www.iomega.com/europe/support/english/documents/10949e.html

    3. Restart the computer.

      Open the Easy CD Creator software to see if your CD-RW drive is detected.

    If your CD-RW drive is detected, you can now use the drive.
