What should I do if the Iomega® HotBurn® software does not detect my Iomega® CD-RW (ZipCD™ 650) drive on my Macintosh® computer?
Document #11497e.html

Please use the following steps if the Iomega® HotBurn® software does not detect your Iomega® CD-RW (ZipCD™ 650) drive on your Macintosh® computer.

STEP ONE - Ensure that the operating system is detecting your CD-RW drive

Check to see if the CD-RW drive is being detected by the operating system. If you have already checked this, please proceed to STEP TWO

Place a disc in your drive and verify that it mounts on the desktop.

If the operating system detects your CD-RW drive, please continue with the next step, STEP TWO

If the operating system does not detect your CD-RW drive, please go to New Web Page Iconhttp://www.iomega.com/europe/support/english/documents/11083e.html

STEP TWO - Reboot your computer

Your computer must be rebooted after installing the Iomega HotBurn software. If you did not reboot your computer or if you are not sure if the computer was rebooted after the software was installed, please reboot your computer at this time.

Open the HotBurn software to see if your CD-RW drive is detected.

If your CD-RW drive is detected, you can now use the drive.

If your CD-RW drive is not detected, please continue with the next step.

STEP THREE - Ensure your drive is on the supported drive list

Check the Iomega HotBurn supported drive list to ensure your drive is supported. Please go to New Web Page Iconhttp://www.iomega.com/software/hotburn/hotburnpc_drivelista.html, select the HotBurn version you are using, click the Supported Drive List link and scroll through the list to see if your drive is present.

If your drive is not on the supported drive list, the version of HotBurn that is currently shipping does not support your drive. Revisions are released frequently and a newer version may have support for your drive, so please check back.

If you would like to notify Iomega about a particular drive that is not listed, please go to New Web Page Iconhttp://www.iomega.com/software/hotburn/drive_request.html Once this notification is received, we will look into adding support for your drive in a future revision of Iomega HotBurn.

STEP FOUR - Boot with a limited extension set

  1. If your Macintosh® computer is not started, start your computer and wait for it to boot.

  2. Click the Apple® icon, Control Panels and Extensions Manager.

  3. Next to Selected Set, choose Mac X.XX OS Base (X stands for the version number) from the drop-down list.

Note: The Mac® OS base set is used to help minimize the possibility of conflicts.

  4. Press the Duplicate Set button.

  5. Type in a name for the duplicate set, such as HotBurn Test.

  6. Locate the field titles ON/OFF, Name, Size, Version and Package located above the listed extensions.

  7. Click the Package field, which arranges the extensions by packages.

  8. Scroll down the list of extensions and find the HotBurn package.

  9. Ensure that the following extensions are listed and that an X is present in the ON/OFF box next to the extensions.

    • Carbonlib

    • HotBurn ATAPI Support

    • HotBurn AutoLaunch Filter

    • HotBurn FireWire Support

    • HotBurn USB Support

    • MW_MSL.PPC.Shlb

  10. From the Startup Items folder, ensure that the HotBurn AutoLaunch extension is listed and that an X is present in the ON/OFF box next to the extension.

  11. Ensure that the Apple USB Authoring Support, FireWire Authoring Support and Disc Burner extensions are disabled and that an X is NOT present in the ON/OFF box next to the extension.

  12. Click the Restart button.

Open the HotBurn software to see if your drive is detected.

Note: Using a limited extension set may disable extensions needed to operate third-party software or hardware. To re-enable third-party software or hardware functionality, open the Extensions Manager again and choose the Default Set from the popup (usually named My Settings). Only use the HotBurn Test extension set when you need to use your HotBurn software.

If the CD-RW drive is detected, you can now use your drive.

If the CD-RW drive is not detected, please continue with the next step.

STEP FIVE - Uninstall and reinstall the HotBurn software
