How do I uninstall the Iomega® CD-RW (ZipCD™) drive?

Please use the following steps to uninstall the Iomega® CD-RW (ZipCD™) drive and software from a computer.

STEP ONE - Disconnect The CD-RW Drive

  1. Turn off the computer.

  2. Disconnect the CD-RW drive's cables from the drive and computer.

    Internal CD-RW Drive Users:

    Warning: Before opening the case on the computer or before touching the internal components, always turn off the power and disconnect the computer's power cord from the electrical outlet. To discharge personal static electricity, touch a grounded metal object (such as a metal screw attached to the cover of the computer). A screw that is attached to the computer chassis is grounded. If you do not discharge personal static electricity, you risk damaging the hardware and possible loss of data.

    Caution: Removing the computer cover may void the manufacturer's warranty agreement. Before removing the computer cover, check the computer manufacturer's warranty information.

  3. Restart the computer.

  4. Continue with the next step.

STEP TWO - Close all open programs

    Note: Macintosh® users, please proceed to STEP THREE.

Select an operating system

    Windows 95/98/Me | Windows 2000/XP and Windows NT

Windows® 95/98/Me

  1. Press and hold down the CTRL, ALT and DEL buttons (in the order shown). This should open the Close Program window.

  2. Click a program to highlight it.

    Note: Do not select Explorer or Systray.

  3. Click End Task

  4. Continue using steps A through C until all of the programs, except for Explorer and Systray, are closed.

Windows 2000/XP and Windows NT®

  1. Press and hold down the CTRL, ALT and DEL buttons (in the order shown).

  2. Click the Task Manager button.

  3. Click the Applications tab.

  4. Click a program to highlight it.

  5. Click End Task.

  6. Continue using steps D and E to close all applications running on your computer.

  7. Click the Processes tab.

  8. Click a program to highlight it.

    Note: Do not select EXPLORER.EXE OR TASKMGR.EXE

  9. Click End Process.

    Note: Windows 2000/XP and Windows NT will not allow certain processes to be closed.

  10. Continue using steps H and I to close all of the processes Windows will allow you to close. Remembering not to close EXPLORER.EXE and TASKMGR.EXE.

STEP THREE - Uninstall the software for the CD-RW drive

Please use the following steps to uninstall the CD-RW drive's software from the computer.

Select an operating system

    Windows | Macintosh

Windows

  1. Click Start, highlight Settings and click Control Panel.
  2. Note: Windows XP users, click Start and then click Control Panel.

  3. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
  4. Note: Windows Me users, please click view all Control Panel options if the Add/Remove Programs icon is not present.

  5. Click the Install/Uninstall tab.
  6. Note: Windows 2000/XP users, select Change or Remove Programs on the left hand side of the Add/Remove Programs window.

  7. Click one of the following files to highlight (all of these files may not be present on the system):
    • Iomega App Services

    • Iomega HotBurn

    • Iomega CD-RW

    • Iomega ZipCD Support Files

    • Adaptec DirectCD

    • Adaptec Easy CD Creator

  8. Click the Add/Remove button.

    Note: Windows 2000/XP users, click the Change/Remove button.

  9. Continue using steps D and E above to remove all of the programs that are present on the computer.

  10. Once the software is uninstalled, click OK.

  11. If prompted, click Yes or OK to restart the computer.

The CD-RW drive and software should now be removed from the computer.

Macintosh

  1. Ensure that your hard drive is selected.

  2. From the Apple® menu bar, click File and then Find.

  3. Select Files.

  4. Type HotBurn in the open text box.

  5. Click the magnifying glass button to begin the search.

  6. Once the HotBurn files and folders are found, click Edit on the Apple menu bar and choose Select all.

  7. Click File and select Move to Trash.

  8. Go back to Sherlock® and type Toast in the open text box.

  9. Click the magnifying glass button to begin the search.

  10. Once the Toast files and folders are found, click Edit on the Apple menu bar and choose Select all.

  11. Click File and select Move to Trash.

  12. Click Special and select Empty Trash.

The CD-RW drive and software should now be removed from the computer.
