Please use the following steps if the Iomega® HotBurn® or HotBurn Pro software does not detect your CD-RW or DVD drive.
HotBurn Burn & Go Gold, Burn & Go CD/DVD or Burn & Go Pro customers: If you are using HotBurn software that came with the Burn & Go Gold software package, please go to http://www.valusoftsupport.com/

STEP ONE - Ensure that the operating system is detecting your CD-RW or DVD drive
To check to see if the CD-RW or DVD drive is being detected by the operating system, double-click the My Computer icon on the desktop (Windows® XP users may need to click Start to access My Computer) and verify that an icon for your CD-RW or DVD drive is present.
- If the operating system detects your CD-RW or DVD drive, please continue with the next step, STEP TWO
- If you are using an Iomega CD-RW or DVD drive and the operating system does not detect your drive, please go to

- If you are using any other brand of CD-RW or DVD drive, please contact your drive manufacturer for troubleshooting information for your specific drive and operating system.
STEP TWO - Download the latest HotBurn update
Please go to the Iomega Software Download site at
http://www.iomega.com/software/hotburn/index.html and download the latest update available.
After you have installed the latest update, restart your computer. Open the HotBurn software to see if your CD-RW or DVD drive is detected.
- If your CD-RW or DVD drive is detected, you can now use the drive.
- If your CD-RW or DVD drive is not detected, please continue with the next step.
STEP THREE - Uninstall any other CD creation software installed on your computer
Other CD Creation software can conflict with HotBurn. Please uninstall any other CD Creation software that is on your computer, such as Easy CD Creator, Nero, etc. If you do not have other CD creation software installed, please proceed to STEP FOUR
After the other CD creation software is uninstalled, open the HotBurn software to see if your CD-RW or DVD drive is detected.
- If your CD-RW or DVD drive is detected, you can now use the drive.
- If your CD-RW or DVD drive is not detected, please continue with the next step.
STEP FOUR - Ensure your drive is on the supported drive list
If you are using an Iomega CD-RW drive, please proceed to STEP FIVE. All other CD-RW or DVD drive users should check the Iomega HotBurn supported drive list. Please go to:

- If your drive is on the supported drive list, please continue with the next step, STEP FIVE.
- If your drive is not on the supported drive list, the version of HotBurn that is currently shipping does not support your drive. Revisions are released frequently and a newer version may have support for your drive, so please check back.
- If you would like to notify Iomega about a particular drive that is not listed, please go to
http://www.iomega.com/software/hotburn/drive_request.html
STEP FIVE - Update your USB or FireWire drivers
ATAPI CD-RW or DVD drive users: please proceed to STEP SEVEN
- If you are using an Iomega brand USB CD-RW drive in Windows 98 or if you are using an Iomega brand FireWire CD-RW drive in Windows 98/Me, please continue using the information in this step. All other Iomega drive customers, please proceed to STEP SIX
- If you are using any other brand of CD-RW drive (non-Iomega), please contact your drive manufacturer for information on how to obtain the latest USB or FireWire updates for your drive and then continue with the next step, STEP SIX

Iomega CD-RW 4x4x6 or ZipCD 650 4x4x6 USB drive customers using Windows 98: please scroll down the list until you find "USB Driver". Download and install this driver.
All other USB or FireWire drive customers using Windows 98 or Me: please scroll down the list until you find "USB and FireWire (1394) update module". Download and install this update.
- If the CD-RW drive is detected, you can now use the drive.
- If the CD-RW drive is not detected, please continue with the next step.
STEP SIX - Ensure that your system has the latest USB chipset drivers
Note: If you are not using a USB drive, please proceed to STEP SEVEN
Ensure that your system has the latest USB chipset drivers installed. Please use the following steps to help determine your computer's USB chipset manufacturer.
- Right-click the My Computer icon and select Properties (Windows XP/2000 users should right-click the My Computer icon and select Manage).
- Click the Device Manager tab or icon.
- Click the plus (+) sign next to Universal Serial Bus Controllers.
Note: If Universal Serial Bus Controllers is not listed, there is a problem with the USB controller or the USB controller is not enabled in the computer's BIOS. Please contact the computer manufacturer for information on how to fix or enable the USB controller.
- Under Universal Serial Bus Controllers, a Universal Host Controller and/or an Enhanced Host Controller should be listed. The name listed for the controller should be the manufacturer of the USB chipset. Please refer to the illustration below.

As shown in the illustration above, the first one listed is an Adaptec USB chipset (add-in USB 2.0 card) and the second one listed is an Intel USB chipset (built-in USB 1.1 card). Using the information provided on how to find the manufacturer name, please contact the chipset manufacturer for updated drivers. Some common USB manufacturers are:
Once the latest USB chipset drivers are installed, open the Iomega HotBurn software to see if your CD-RW or DVD drive is detected.
- If your CD-RW or DVD drive is detected, you can now use your HotBurn software.
- If your CD-RW or DVD drive is not detected, please continue with the next step.
STEP SEVEN - Ensure that you have installed the latest firmware update for your drive
Ensure that your drive has the latest firmware update installed. Firmware updates can be obtain from most CD-RW or DVD manufacturer's Web sites.
- If you are using an Iomega CD-RW or DVD drive, please go to
http://www.iomega.com/software/index_en.html and use the wizard to select your product, OS and language to see if any firmware updates are available for your drive. If a firmware update is not available for your drive, proceed to STEP EIGHT
- If you are using any other brand of CD-RW or DVD drive, please contact your drive manufacturer for information on how to obtain firmware updates for your drive. If a firmware update is not available for your drive, proceed to STEP EIGHT
Once the latest firmware has been installed, open the HotBurn software to see if your CD-RW or DVD drive is detected.
- If your CD-RW or DVD drive is detected, you can now use your HotBurn software.
- If your CD-RW or DVD drive is not detected, please continue with the next step.
STEP EIGHT - Uninstall and reinstall the HotBurn software
Important: Ensure that you have logged onto your system as Administrator if you are using Windows 2000/XP or Windows NT®.
Uninstall
- Click Start, highlight Settings and click Control Panel.
Note: Windows XP users, click Start and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
Note: Windows Me users, please click view all Control Panel options if the Add/Remove Programs icon is not present.
- Click the Install/Uninstall tab.
Note: Windows 2000/XP users, select Change or Remove Programs on the left hand side of the Add/Remove Programs window.
- Click one of the following files to highlight (all of these files may not be present on your system):
- Iomega App Services
- Iomega HotBurn
- Iomega HotBurn Pro
- Iomega CD-RW
- Click the Add/Remove button.
Note: Windows 2000/XP users, click the Change/Remove button.
- Continue using steps D and E above to remove all of the programs that are present from your computer.
- Once the software is uninstalled, click OK.
- Click Yes or OK to restart your computer if prompted.
Reinstall
Please select the type of install instructions you need:

Install from CD
Note: Ensure that you are logged in as Administrator if you are using a Windows 2000, Windows XP or Windows NT® system.
- Insert the Iomega HotBurn software CD (or the HotBurn CD you created during the original HotBurn install) into the CD-ROM drive. The software CD should automatically open.
- Follow the instructions as they appear on the screen to install the software.
- Restart the computer. Once the system restarts, open the HotBurn software.
- If you are not prompted to perform the system test, check to see if the HotBurn software detects your drive. If the CD-RW or DVD drive is detected, you can now use your HotBurn software. If the CD-RW or DVD drive is not detected and you are using Windows 2000 or Windows XP, please proceed to STEP NINE If the CD-RW or DVD drive is not detected and you are using any other Windows operating system, please contact Iomega Technical Support at http://www.iomega.com/europe/support/english/en_contact.html
- If you are prompted to perform the System Test, please continue.
- You will now be asked to perform the System Test, which must be performed in order to use the CD Copy feature in HotBurn.
- Ensure that the HotBurn installation disc is in the system's CD-ROM drive (not the CD-RW drive).
- Click the Test button.
- Click Select, located in the layout window, and then select the system's CD-ROM drive from the list.
- Click the OK button.
- Click the Test button, located on the lower right-hand side of the HotBurn console.
- Once the System Test is done, make a note of the extraction rate information listed to use for future reference.
- Click the Complete button.
Open the HotBurn software to see if your CD-RW or DVD drive is detected.
- If the CD-RW drive is detected, you can now use your HotBurn software.
- If the CD-RW drive is not detected and you are using Windows 2000 or Windows XP, please continue with the next step.
- If the CD-RW drive is not detected and you are using any other Windows operating system, please contact Iomega Technical Support at http://www.iomega.com/europe/support/english/en_contact.html
Install from Download
Note: You will need a blank CD-R disc for the following steps. Ensure that you are logged in as Administrator if you are using a Windows 2000, Windows XP or Windows NT system.
- Download the software to the computer's desktop.
- Double-click the downloaded file to start the installation. Iomega recommends that you install the default options, as this will install all of the needed features.
- When prompted, restart the computer.
- Click Start, Programs and then Iomega HotBurn.
- Once the software opens, you will be asked to create an original HotBurn CD-ROM disc.
Important: Iomega highly recommend that you create the original HotBurn disc. It is used to run the system test, which must be performed in order to use the CD Copy feature in HotBurn.
- Click the Yes button.
- Click the OK button when asked to select the CD-RW or DVD drive you want to use to create the HotBurn disc.
- Highlight the CD-RW or DVD drive you want to use and then click OK.
- You will now be asked to insert a blank CD-R disc into the CD-RW drive you selected.
- After you have inserted the disc, click OK.
- Once you are done creating the HotBurn disc, click the Complete button.
- If you are not prompted to perform the system test, check to see if the HotBurn software detects your drive. If the CD-RW or DVD drive is detected, you can now use your HotBurn software. If the CD-RW drive is not detected and you are using Windows 2000 or Windows XP, please proceed to STEP NINE If the CD-RW drive is not detected and you are using any other Windows operating system, please contact Iomega Technical Support at http://www.iomega.com/europe/support/english/en_contact.html
- If you are prompted to perform the System Test, please continue.
- You will now be asked to perform the System Test, which must be performed in order to use the CD Copy feature in HotBurn. Please remove the HotBurn disc you just created from the CD-RW drive.
- Insert the HotBurn disc into your system's CD-ROM drive (not the CD-RW drive).
- Click the Test button.
- Click Select, located in the layout window, and then select the system's CD-ROM drive from the list.
- Click the OK button.
- Click the Test button, located on the lower right-hand side of the HotBurn console.
- Once the System Test is done, make a note of the extraction rate information listed to use for future reference.
- Click the Complete button.
Open the HotBurn software to see if your CD-RW drive is detected.
- If the CD-RW drive is detected, you can now use your HotBurn software.
- If the CD-RW drive is not detected and you are using Windows 2000 or Windows XP, please continue with the next step.
STEP NINE - Ensure Iomega App Services is enabled
- Right-click the My Computer icon and select Manage.
- Click the plus (+) sign next to Services and Applications.
- Click Services.
- Right-click Iomega App Services and select Properties.
- From the Startup type drop-down box, select Automatic.
- Click Apply.
- Click OK.
- Restart the computer.
If the CD-RW drive is detected, you can now use your HotBurn software.
