How do I properly release the Iomega® CD-RW (ZipCD™) drive from a system to help avoid unsafe removal errors?

If the Iomega® CD-RW (ZipCD™) drive is not properly released from a computer system, you may receive an unsafe removal error message. Please use the following steps.

Windows®

  1. Close any open files or programs to ensure that the drive is not in use.

  2. On the right hand side of the taskbar, locate the Safely Remove Storage Device icon or the Unplug or Eject Hardware icon.

    Iomega Safely Remove Storage Device  If the Safely Remove Hardware Device icon is present:

    1. Right-click the Safely Remove Hardware Device icon, highlight your drive and then click Safely Remove.

    Windows UnPlug or Eject Hardware  If the Unplug or Eject Hardware icon is present:

    1. Double-click the Unplug or Eject Hardware icon.

    2. Click Display device components to place a check mark in the box.

      Note: This will show the device components and make it easier to select the appropriate USB or FireWire drive.

    3. Click the device component listed for your drive and click the Stop button.

Macintosh®

  1. Ensure that the drive is not in use.

  2. Click the drive icon and then drag it onto the trash.
