This error may occur while trying to access a disc in your Iomega® CD-RW (ZipCD 650) drive. If this happens, please follow the steps below to resolve this problem:
STEP ONE - Identify the IDE/ATAPI configuration of the ZipCD drive on your computer
- Remove the cover from your computer.
Warning: Before opening the case on your computer or before touching the internal components, always turn off the power and disconnect your computer's power cord from the electrical outlet. To discharge personal static electricity, touch a grounded metal object such as a metal screw attached to the cover of your computer. A screw that is attached to your computer's chassis is grounded. If you do not discharge personal static electricity, you risk damaging your hardware and possible loss of your data.
Note: If you have questions concerning the terms of your computer manufacturer's warranty or need further instructions on how to remove your computer's casing, please refer to the owner's manual that came with your computer.
- Locate the Iomega CD-RW (ZipCD 650) drive inside your computer.
- Locate the ribbon cable connected to the back of the CD-RW drive.
- Follow the ribbon cable to where it connects to the motherboard.
- Identify whether the cable is attached to the primary IDE channel or the secondary IDE channel.

Side-by-side

End-to-end
Note: Look on the motherboard for the words "pri IDE" and "sec IDE" to identify which channel is the primary and which is the secondary IDE channel.
If the CD-RW drive is the only device connected to the secondary IDE channel, continue with the next step.
If the CD-RW drive is connected to the primary IDE channel, please go to http://www.iomega.com/europe/support/english/documents/30088e.html for information on how to install your drive as master on the secondary channel.
STEP TWO - Determine if the Iomega CD-RW (ZipCD 650) drive is set to master or slave
Look on the back of the drive at the jumper block. See the illustration below to determine if the drive is set to master or slave.

If the drive is set to master, change the setting to slave. Even though the drive is the only device on the secondary IDE channel, changing the jumper to slave may solve this problem. Continue with the next step.
If the drive is set to slave, change the setting to master and continue with the next step.
STEP THREE - Try reading the disc in the drive
Try accessing the disc by following these steps:
- Double-click the My Computer icon.
- Double-click the icon for your Iomega CD-RW (ZipCD 650) drive.
If you can read the data on the disc, your drive is now ready to use.
