Information about software and/or drivers

For information about software and/or drivers that may be needed for your Iomega CD-RW (ZipCD 650) drive, please go to http://www.iomega.com/europe/support/english/documents/10085e.html

Basic drive usage tips

  • You must have CD burning software installed on your computer to burn CDs with your drive. You will need to install the software that came with the drive, install a third-party CD burning software or use the built-in CD burning software available with certain operating systems (XP & Mac OS X).

  • Before creating CDs, we recommend that you view the Iomega recommended media list at New Web Page Iconhttp://www.iomega.com/europe/support/english/documents/10706e.html

  • To create music CDs, use the Music or Audio option that your CD burning software offers.

  • To backup photos, documents, files, multimedia presentations, etc., use the Data option that your CD burning software offers.

  • When you create an Audio CD, you should close the CD if you want to be able to play the CD on most home and/or car stereo systems. (Iomega HotBurn® closes the CD automatically while most other CD burning software programs, this includes the Easy CD Creator™ software version that shipped with some of our drives, require you to select the option to close the CD before burning the CD.)

  • When using your software's CD to CD copy option or while creating a CD directly from another CD using the Music or Audio option, we suggest that you use your Iomega CD-RW (ZipCD 650) drive as both the source and destination drive (this will copy the information to your hard drive first, helping to prevent buffer underruns). You may also write at a slower speed to help ensure that your CD is created successfully.

  • If you are using the software that came with your Iomega CD-RW (ZipCD 650) drive, please go to New Web Page Iconhttp://www.iomega.com/europe/support/english/documents/11082e.html for a list of tutorials on how to use your drive and software together.

  • If your computer (operating system) or software will not detect your Iomega CD-RW (ZipCD 650) drive, please go to New Web Page Icon http://www.iomega.com/europe/support/english/documents/11083e.html

Advantages between CD-R and CD-RW media

    CD-R disc advantages:

    • Good for permanent data storage (discs cannot be erased).

    • Less expensive per CD than CD-RW discs.

    • Readable on virtually all CD-ROM and CD-R drives.

    • Can be used in most home or car stereo CD players.

    CD-RW disc advantages:

    • Allows you to erase data and rewrite new information.

    • Ideal for backup, sharing files with colleagues and transporting files between computers.

    • Allows you to make a practice CD or test the contents of a CD before making a permanent one.
