When DMA (Direct Memory Access) is enabled, your computer's processor is not accessed. You can help accelerate the transfer rate of your Iomega® CD-RW (ZipCD 650) ATAPI drive by enabling DMA. Please use the following steps to enable DMA on your drive.
Select your operating system
Windows 95/98/Me | Windows 2000/XP | Windows NT
Windows® 98/95/Me
- Click Start, Settings and Control Panel.
- Click the System icon.
- Click the Device Manager tab.
- Click the plus (+) sign next to CDROM.
- Double-click the icon for your ZipCD drive.
- Click the Settings tab.
- Under Options, click DMA to enable the option.
Note: A check mark should be present in the box next to DMA.
- Click OK.
Windows 2000/XP
- Right-click the My Computer icon and select Manage.
- Click the Device Manager icon.
- Click the plus (+) sign next to IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers.
- Double-click the Primary IDE Channel or Secondary IDE Channel icon where your ZipCD drive is located.
- Click the Advanced Settings tab.
- Under Device 0 (master) or Device 1 (slave), depends on where your ZipCD drive is located, select 'DMA if available' from the drop-down box next to Transfer Mode.
- Click OK.
Windows NT®
Note: You will need to be logged in as Administrator for the following steps.
- Download, to your desktop, the DMA Check application (DMACHCKI.EXE) from the Microsoft® Web site at http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q191/7/74.ASP
Note: If you already have DMA Check on your computer, proceed to step C.
- Double-click the downloaded file, DMACHCKI.EXE.
- Double-click the DMACHECK.EXE icon to start the DMA Check application.
- The ATAPI DMA Support window should now appear.
- Under DMA Usage Channel 0 or DMA Usage Channel 1, depends on where your ZipCD drive is located, click Enabled.
- Click OK.
- Click OK.
