If the ZipCD drive does not install properly on a Compaq® DeskPro® computer, the problem may be with two files installed by Compaq. Use the following steps before you install the Adaptec® software for the ZipCD drive:
STEP ONE - Rename the two Compaq files
- Click Start, choose Find and select Files or folders.
- Type SCSIPWR.VXD in the name field and click Find to search.
- When the file is located, right-click the file name and choose Rename from the menu.
- Change the name from SCSIPWR.VXD to SCSIPWR.OLD. Do not close the File Find window.
- Type PQDFVSD.VXD in the name field and click Find to search.
- When the file is located, right-click the file name and choose Rename from the menu.
- Type PQDFVSD.OLD to rename the file. Do not restart the computer.
- Please continue with the next step.
STEP TWO - Install the Adaptec software
- Place the installation CD into the CD-ROM drive.
- Installation should begin automatically. If the installation does not begin, double-click the CD-ROM drive and select setup.
- Choose from the installation menu, which software to install:
- Easy CD Creator: Creates data CDs and music CDs that may be read on different CD-ROM drives on different computers.
- DirectCD: Allows you to place files and folders directly onto the CD.
- UDF Reader
Note: If you plan to use a CD-RW compatible CD-ROM drive to read discs created by the DirectCD software application, you will need to install the UDF Reader.
- Follow the screen prompts for each software application.
Note: Do not restart the computer until all desired applications are installed.
- Once all of the desired applications have been installed, restart the computer for changes to take effect.
