The type of device that will recognize the discs you create depends upon the type of disc used.
CD-R discs: Almost every CD-ROM and DVD-ROM drive can read CD-R discs and CD-R discs that contain VCD movies. You can play CD audio CD-R discs in any home or car CD player. However, if you created a CD with MP3s, you can only play the disc on a CD player that is also an MP3 player. If you make a VCD disc, very few home DVD players will read them.
CD-RW discs: Almost every CD-ROM and DVD-ROM drive can read CD-RW discs. Most home and car CD players do not recognize CD-RW discs. If you make a VCD discs from a CD-RW discs, very few home DVD players will read them.
DVD+R discs: Almost every DVD-ROM drive can read DVD+R discs and most home DVD players can play DVD+R discs.
DVD+RW discs: Almost every DVD-ROM drive can read DVD+RW discs and many home DVD players can play DVD+RW discs. However, DVD+R discs are compatible with more DVD players than DVD+RW discs.
