My system freezes up during or after the installation of the IomegaWare™ software

When installing your Iomega® drive and the IomegaWare™ software, the computer freezes or hangs immediately after the installation or during the boot up process. This could be caused by either a hardware or a software conflict. Please follow the steps below.


STEP ONE - Disconnect the Iomega drive
  1. Shut down and power off the computer.

  2. Disconnect the Iomega drive from the computer.

  3. Power on the computer.

  4. If the computer no longer freezes, there is a conflict with the Iomega drive and some other device or software on the computer. Contact an Iomega chat or email representative for help.

    If the computer freezes, please continue with the next step.


STEP TWO - Uninstall the IomegaWare software

If the computer is still freezing, uninstall the IomegaWare software in safe mode in Windows® or with the extensions off on a Macintosh®. If the computer still freezes when you try to get into safe mode, you may need to reinstall the operating system. Select the operating system you are using from the list below to find out how to uninstall the IomegaWare software in safe mode.

    Windows 95/98/Me

    1. Restart the computer and hold down the left shift key until the Microsoft® Start up menu appears.

    2. Select Safe Mode from the list and press Enter.

    3. Once the computer has finished booting into Safe Mode, click Start, point to Settings and choose Control Panel.

    4. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.

    5. Highlight IomegaWare and click the Add/Remove button.

      Note: In Windows Me, this may be labeled Change/Remove.

    6. Once the software has finished uninstalling, restart the computer.

      If the computer still freezes, there is a problem with some other device or software on the system. Try searching our knowledgebase or contacting the computer or hardware manufacturer for additional help.

      If the computer no longer freezes, please continue with the next step, STEP THREE.

    Windows NT® 4.0

    1. Restart the computer and choose the option to use the Last Known Good Configuration.

      1. Press and hold the spacebar as the computer begins to restart.

      2. Once the screen appears that has the option to use the Last Known Good Configuration, press the L key and press Enter.

    2. Once the computer has finished booting, click Start, point to Settings and choose Control Panel.

    3. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.

    4. Highlight IomegaWare and click the Add/Remove button.

    5. Once the software has finished uninstalling, restart the computer.

      If the computer still freezes, it is a problem with some other device or software on the system. Try searching our knowledgebase or contacting the computer or hardware manufacturer for additional help.

      If the computer no longer freezes, please continue with the next step, STEP THREE.

    Windows 2000/XP

    1. Restart the computer and press F8 to bring up the Microsoft Start up Menu.

    2. Select Safe Mode from the list and press Enter.

    3. Once the computer has finished booting into Safe Mode, click Start, point to Settings and choose Control Panel.

    4. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.

    5. Highlight IomegaWare and click the Change/Remove button.

    6. Once the software has finished uninstalling, restart the computer.

      If the computer still freezes, it is a problem with some other device or software on the system. Try searching our knowledgebase or contacting the computer or hardware manufacturer for additional help.

      If the computer no longer freezes, please continue with the next step, STEP THREE.

    Macintosh

    1. Restart the computer and hold down the left shift key until the message "Extensions Off" appears.

    2. Once the computer has finished booting, Click File and choose Find.

    3. Type in Iomega and click Find.

    4. Drag all the items returned to the Trash.

    5. Click Special and select Empty the Trash.

    6. Once the all Iomega files have been deleted off of the hard drive, restart the computer.

      If the computer still freezes, it is a problem with some other device or software on the system. Try searching our knowledgebase or contacting the computer or hardware manufacturer for additional help.
