How do I change the drive letter of my Iomega® drive in DOS or Windows®3.1x?
Document # 10122.html

To assign a specific drive letter to your Iomega® drive, follow these steps:

  1. If you are in Windows®, exit to DOS.

  2. At the DOS prompt (C:\>) type EDIT AUTOEXEC.BAT

  3. Locate the line that contains the GUEST.EXE statement.

  4. After GUEST.EXE, type a space character, then LETTER=X where X is the drive letter you want assigned to your Iomega drive.

  5. Hold down the Alt key and press the F key, then press the X key then the Enter key. This will save your changes and exit the DOS Editor.

Your Iomega drive will now be assigned the drive letter you selected.

A maximum of eight drive letters (A through H) are assigned by DOS without any modifications to the system files. If you have more than eight drives, or wish to assign a drive letter greater than H to any of your drives, follow these steps:

  1. At the DOS prompt (C:\>) type EDIT CONFIG.SYS.

  2. After the last line listed in the file, type a new line that reads LASTDRIVE=X where X is the last drive letter you wish to assign to any of your drives.

  3. Hold down the Alt key and press the F key, then press the X key then the Enter key. This will save your changes and exit the DOS Editor.

You can now assign drive letters up to the letter assigned in the LASTDRIVE=X statement.
