How do I change the drive letter of my Iomega® drive in Windows® NT 4.0?

This solution applies to the following Iomega® drives:

  • Zip® 100MB & 250MB
  • Jaz® 1GB & 2GB
  • ZipCD™ / Iomega CD-RW
  • PocketZip™ / Clik!™
  • HipZip™
  • Microdrive™
  • Peerless™
  • FotoShow™

To be able to change the drive letter of your Iomega drive in Windows® NT 4.0, you must have Service Pack 4 or higher installed. Follow the steps below to change the drive letter of your Iomega drive in Windows NT 4.0.

Note: Sometimes after installing your Iomega drive, the drive will take over the drive letter of your CD-ROM or some other drive. The steps below can also be used to change the drive letter of your CD-ROM or other drive whose drive letter was changed.

STEP ONE - Log in as the system administrator
You must be logged in as the system administrator in order to change drive letters in Windows NT 4.0.

STEP TWO - Open the Disk Administrator window
  1. Insert a disk into the Iomega drive.

  2. Click Start.

  3. Point to Programs.

  4. Point to Administrative Tools Common.

  5. Click Disk Administrator.


STEP THREE - Change the drive letter
  1. Right-click the drive letter assigned to the Iomega drive.

  2. Click Assign drive letter.

  3. Click the Assign drive letter drop-down menu and choose a desired drive letter for the Iomega drive.

  4. Click OK.

  5. Click Yes to the message that comes up.
