How do I save my data so I can reformat my Zip® disk connected to my computer in Windows®?

If you wish to save the data from your Zip® disk before reformatting it, use the following steps:

STEP ONE - Make a folder to hold the Zip disk contents.

Note: You must have enough free space on your hard drive to hold the contents of the Zip disk.
  1. Right-click the computer desktop, select New, then Folder.

  2. Name the folder Zip Disk Contents.

STEP TWO - Copy the contents of the Zip disk to the folder
  1. If the Zip disk is not in the drive, put it in now.
  2. Double-click the My Computer icon.
  3. Double-click the Zip disk icon.
  4. Select Edit, and then click Select All.

  5. Drag the contents to the Zip Disk Contents folder on your desktop.

  6. Close the Zip disk window.

STEP THREE - Reformat the Zip disk
  1. Double-click the My Computer icon.
  2. Right-click the Zip disk icon.
  3. Select Format.
  4. Select Long Format.
  5. Click the Format button to begin formatting the disk.
  6. When formatting has completed click OK.

STEP FOUR - Move the contents back to the Zip disk
  1. Double-click the My Computer icon.
  2. Double-click the Zip disk icon.
  3. Select Edit, and then click Select All.
  4. Drag the contents of the folder to the newly formatted Zip disk.
  5. Drag the Zip Disk Contents folder to the trash.

You are now ready to use the data on your Zip disk.
