To install your external Zip SCSI drive in Windows® 98/95 and Windows Me, use the following steps:

  1. Check your SCSI connection. Your Zip drive is designed to connect to a standard 25-pin SCSI connection.

Caution: Do not connect the external Zip SCSI drive to a printer (parallel) port. Although the connectors look the same, doing so may cause damage to the drive or your computer.

Warning: The Zip SCSI drive is SCSI-1 compliant and may be connected to the end of a Fast SCSI-2 or Ultra SCSI chain using a high quality cable. However, the drive does not meet SCSI-2 or Ultra SCSI specifications and may not work correctly in these configurations. Data integrity could possibly be affected.

  2. Unpack your Zip drive and accessories.

  3. Close all programs and shutdown your computer.

  4. Turn off power to your computer and all external devices.

  5. Connect the end of the data cable marked "zip" to the Zip connector on the back of your drive.

  6. Connect the other end of the data cable to your computer's SCSI connection.

Caution: Make sure you connect the Zip cable to a SCSI connector. Do NOT connect the cable to a parallel port (printer port). The parallel port is the same size and shape as some SCSI adapter connectors, but the parallel port will not support this model of the Zip drive and may damage the drive or computer.

  7. Check the termination and SCSI ID on your Zip drive. Factory defaults are SCSI ID 5 and termination on.

  8. Connect the Zip drive's power supply and fit the cord into the groove on the side of the drive.

  9. Check that the green power light is on. This indicates that the power supply is connected properly.

  10. Start your PC and wait for Windows to load.

  11. After Windows finishes loading, insert the IomegaWare™ CD into the computer's CD-ROM drive. If you do not have the IomegaWare CD or a CD-ROM drive, you may download the software from the Iomega® Web site at http://www.iomega.com/software/

  12. If the IomegaWare software setup program does not start automatically, follow these steps:

    1. Double-click the My Computer icon.

    2. Double-click the CD drive letter or locate the downloaded IomegaWare file.

    3. Double-click the icon for setup.exe

  13. Follow the screen instructions to install the IomegaWare software.

  14. Restart your computer for changes to take effect.
