Sleek New Super DVD Writer 16x16 Dual-Format USB 2.0 Drive Delivers Premium Experience at Mainstream Price

SAN DIEGO, February 28, 2005 - Iomega Corporation (NYSE: IOM), a global leader in data storage, today announced the availability of its best-performing optical drive, the Iomega Super DVD Writer 16x16 Dual-Format USB 2.0 Drive, which comes with an enhanced collection of software applications for effortlessly capturing, sharing and saving videos, music, photos and other digital data.

One Drive Does It All
The Iomega® Super DVD Writer delivers a richer user experience and looks great on the desktop. The external drive, housed in a slim black enclosure, handles all the major disc formats with speed to burn, including 4x recording of new DVD+R DL (double layer) discs. The included software speeds users through common tasks, making it easy to capture and share precious memories on long-lasting DVDs or CDs. Each 8.5GB* double layer disc holds about 34,000 photos, 160 hours of music, or 12 hours of video.**

Power and Flexibility
Iomega’s DVD Wizard launches from the desktop to help users select the appropriate software and type of disc for different tasks, whether the user is a parent putting together family movies on DVD, a student ripping a personal dance mix, a grandparent creating a digital photo album, or a business archiving 8.5GB of critical data. The DVD Wizard cuts through the disc format confusion and lets users concentrate on what they want to do with their digital data.

Included Software Titles
  • Iomega® Automatic Backup software for continuous real-time data backup;
  • Iomega® HotBurn® Pro software for Windows, for creating music or data discs, saving Internet downloads, managing large files;
  • Sonic® MyDVD™ 6 software for original digital video creation and editing
  • Sonic CinePlayer™ software for DVD video viewing;
  • Charismac Discribe software for Macintosh, for creating music or data discs, saving Internet downloads, managing large files;
  • Adobe® Photoshop Album™ Starter Edition software for managing photos and graphic arts files;
  • MUSICMATCH® software for enjoying music files.
  • Enhanced Video Editing
    Sonic MyDVD 6 gives users advanced video-editing features in a simple package:
  • Edit and trim video; adding effects like music, text and transitions;
  • Customize slideshows by simply dragging photos into the slideshow window and adding background music;
  • Set the appropriate quality setting based on amount of content.
  • Superb Automatic Backup
    For anyone who ever lost a file because the most recent backup was several weeks old, Iomega® Automatic Backup software, a PC Magazine Editor’s Choice for real-time backup software (June 17, 2003, edition), provides the ideal solution. It delivers continuous real-time backup to any drive letter whenever the user saves a file in a protected folder. IAB is also able to save multiple file revisions and can keep multiple backup sets on different destination drives. In addition, IAB can exclude files by file type, perform scheduled backups if preferred, and cache backups temporarily. Iomega Automatic Backup is also available separately at www.iomega.com for $39.95.

    Easy-to-Use CD and DVD Burner
    Iomega’s HotBurn® Pro software adds many easy-to-use DVD/CD burning features to complement the basic disc support that is built into Windows XP: true drag-and-drop file recording, an integrated console interface, integrated DVD and CD imaging, compilation creation, and a jewel case editor. Added features include a graphical audio layout editor; pop, click and hiss removal filters; and bootable CD creation.

    The Double-Layer Advantage
    The Super DVD Writer can create DVD+R DL (Double-layer) discs at 4x speeds, making it easer for users to take full advantage of the benefits of 8.5GB capacity:
  • Better Video. Improved picture resolution and quality for home DVD video is possible thanks to higher data rates;
  • Simpler Archives. More manageable disc archives are possible thanks to the DVD+R DL disc format and its ability to store the equivalent of up to 12 CDs worth of data on a single disk;
  • Improved Disc Production. Filmmakers can master and test new DVD titles using inexpensive discs before pressing a batch of discs with traditional equipment.
  • DVD Burners: A Rapidly Growing Category
    Sales of aftermarket external DVD burners are expected to grow by 36 percent annually from 2004 to 2008 (IDC), while CD-RW sales are expected to decline. The reason: DVD burners like the Super DVD Writer from Iomega can burn virtually any kind of optical disc, including CDs, single-layer DVDs and double-layer DVDs.

    Supported formats include the new double-layer DVD format, DVD+R DL, which has a 4x write speed; DVD+R and DVD+RW (16x8x8x write, rewrite, and read); DVD-R and DVD-RW (16x6x8x); and CD-R and CD-RW discs (48x24x32x). Ripping music CDs is also faster than ever, thanks to 40x digital audio extraction. The new drive features buffer underrun protection for reliable burns.

    About the DVD+R DL Format
    DVD+R DL is a “write-once” recording standard. A double-layer DVD+R DL disc contains two recording layers of organic dye film. The top layer is semi-transparent, allowing the recording laser to focus on either the top layer or the bottom layer. When the laser heats microscopic regions on one of the recording layers, it creates permanent dots in the organic dye film. The resulting data can be read in most standard DVD players and DVD-ROM drives.
