Iomega Ships New Internal REV 35GB Drive for Serial-ATA Systems

Native Support For SATA Interface Boosts REV Drive Integration With System Integrators

SAN DIEGO, March 29, 2005 - Iomega Corporation (NYSE: IOM), a global leader in data storage, today announced the availability of a new Serial ATA (SATA) model in Iomega's growing line of Iomega® REV™ 35GB* removable storage products. The new drive gives users the speed and cabling advantages of SATA, the latest advance in PC interface technology, to make adding a REV drive to new computer systems easier than ever for system backups and portable storage.

Iomega introduced the first REV 35GB drive in April 2004. Today, the REV drive and its removable 35GB disks are available with USB, ATAPI, FireWire, SCSI, and SATA interfaces. Since its debut, the Iomega REV drive has won over 15 industry awards, including "Best of CeBIT America" for personal hardware and a PC Magazine "5 Stars" rating and Editors' Choice award (June 22, 2004, issue).

"Our internal research shows one third of REV customers are using REV as their first backup device, one third are replacing tape units, and one third are replacing other devices like optical drives," said Wayne Arvidson, director, professional storage solutions, Iomega Corporation. "As REV gains popularity, its market is expanding beyond the initial target of tape replacement. A lot of large file users are now turning to REV for their backup and portable storage needs."

State-of-the-Art Backup and Portable Storage
The REV drive overcomes many of the limitations of existing tape backup solutions. While tape is a fragile, slow and expensive linear-access technology, the REV drive offers robust, high-speed data transfers with random access capability, transforming the backup process and making system or file recovery tasks faster, easier and less costly in terms of both labor and network downtime. Iomega's REV drive not only outperforms tape alternatives like DDS-4, DAT-72, VXA®, AIT-1, and DLT VS80, but it costs as little as half as much.

The 35GB REV disk is smaller than a deck of playing cards (10 x 77 x 75 mm) and delivers exceptional read-write performance of up to 25 MB/sec. (maximum native transfer rate) with much greater durability than tape-an estimated one million rewrites. For businesses that are used to budgeting for the replacement cost of worn-out tapes, REV disks offer an unbeatable value at about U.S. $49.95 per unit when purchased in a four-pack (available singly for $59.95).

The REV drive also shines as an alternative to external hard drives. Users can expand their storage capacity in affordable 35GB increments (on PCs, up to 90GB of compressed capacity with included software), archive unneeded data to inexpensive REV disks, and carry even the largest of data files with ease. Service bureaus can use REV disks as project disks and carry them with confidence, knowing that the REV disk is much more rugged than portable hard drives because the sensitive read/write heads and electronics are located in the REV drive itself - not in the small portable disk.

Revolutionary Reliability
REV disks are engineered for a long shelf life, estimated at 30 years. The disk holds a hard drive platter and a quiet fluid-dynamic bearing motor, eliminating the spindle hole as a source of dust contamination. Air filtration, together with shutters that seal off both drive and disk from outside air when the disk is inserted and ejected, contribute to a virtual "clean room" environment inside the removable REV disk.

These features, combined with advanced two-stage error correction and automatic head cleaning, give REV storage products exceptional data integrity.

Bundled Iomega Automatic Backup Pro Software for a Total Solution
Included with each Iomega REV SATA drive is Iomega Automatic Backup Pro software for file-level backup as well as powerful disaster recovery. Once configured, the "no-touch" software automatically backs up specified files (including multiple revisions) continuously or at scheduled intervals. Professional-level features include up to 2.6:1 compression, providing up to 90GB** of compressed capacity per REV disk, and AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) file encryption. Disaster recovery features allow for live or scheduled system backups within Windows-with no system shutdowns or reboots.

Industry software support for the Iomega REV drive has been growing fast since its release in April 2004. Major storage software vendors in the Windows, UNIX, and Linux communities support the REV drive including Computer Associates® BrightStor ARCserve Backup, Yosemite™ TapeWare, Dantz® Retrospect, and Veritas™ Backup Exec. Iomega continues to work with others to certify compatibility with their solutions.

Compatibility and Requirements
Supported operating systems include Microsoft® Windows® XP Home and Professional; Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition; and Windows 2000 Server/Professional/Advanced Server (SP3 and SP4).
