Iomega Announces New Line of Economical Storage Servers with Enterprise-Class Features
***
Iomega NAS 300r Storage Servers Provides 320GB to 500GB of Critical Business Data Protection and Management
SAN DIEGO,
March 29, 2005 - Iomega Corporation (NYSE: IOM), a global leader in data storage, today announced the new Iomega® NAS 300r Series with Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2003. Available in three models with capacities ranging from 320GB* to 500GB, the NAS 300r Series storage server is an economical, safe and secure repository for important files in small to medium-sized businesses, corporate workgroups, and remote offices.
"Business owners and managers generally work with tight budgets but have to manage rapidly growing storage needs, so they want data solutions that keep installation and support costs low," said Wayne Arvidson, director, professional storage solutions, Iomega Corporation. "For companies with little or no IT support, a plug-and-play Iomega NAS 300r Series storage server is an ideal solution. It delivers enterprise-quality data protection for as little as $2,000 with an easy installation and no network or application server downtime."
Painless Installation and Management
Deploying an Iomega NAS 300r Series storage server is virtually automatic with Iomega's plug-and-play configuration and self-discovery software, requiring no network downtime. Windows Storage Server 2003 comes standard with unlimited client access licenses (CALs), so the 300r integrates seamlessly into existing Microsoft Windows networks. Because it uses the network services that people already know how to use, the NAS 300r Series storage server also offers easy manageability and low total cost of ownership.
An Advanced Client Backup and Disaster Recovery Solution
By including Iomega Automatic Backup Pro (IAB Pro) software with each Iomega NAS 300r Series storage server, Iomega transforms the 300r Series server from a conventional network storage device to a complete client backup solution. Each client PC on the network can choose continuous backup or scheduled backup to the 300r Series server. With continuous backup, every file the user creates or changes on a client PC will be automatically copied to the 300r Series server as a backup destination.
Data security is further enhanced with IAB Pro software's ability to back up multiple file revisions and its easy configuration of scheduled backups if preferred. And with up to 2.6:1 file compression**, IAB Pro can also make each NAS dollar go farther.
"The forgotten piece of the puzzle in many businesses is the ability to back up the day-to-day work that may be located on client PCs rather than on a centralized server," said Arvidson. "IAB Pro makes it happen automatically without any impact whatsoever on administration costs."
Reliability, Availability, Serviceability
The 300r series is designed as a hardened storage vault for a business's most valuable data, meeting high reliability, availability, and serviceability (RAS) requirements at an affordable price with features like the following:
RAID 1 (mirrored) hard drives to protect against data loss;
True hot-swappable drives to enable recovery from disk failure without downtime;
Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 database support off-loads database tasks from Exchange servers to improve performance;
Microsoft Active Directory Services and Distributed File System provide seamless network integration.
Computer Associates eTrust™ Antivirus software to protect against virus attacks;
Volume Shadow Copy Service to enable point-in-time file recovery;
Iomega Automatic Backup Pro software to enable automatic client-level backup and scheduled backup of desktops, laptops, and workstations to an Iomega NAS server.
All Iomega NAS 300r storage servers are supported by all standard Windows enterprise backup applications.
Affordable Business Performance
Iomega NAS 300r storage servers deliver superior performance in the sub-$2,000 NAS product category by using advanced components for improved speed and reliability:
High-speed 7200 rpm SATA hard disks for fast data reads and writes;
2.8 GHz Intel® Celeron® processor speeds throughput;
Dual 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet (some models) to ensure availability and improve network performance;
Ultra 160 SCSI interface to enable high-speed archival backup to REV 1000 autoloader, REV SCSI drive, or local tape devices (500GB model);
All Iomega NAS 300r storage servers support mixed computing environments including Windows, Mac®, Linux, UNIX and Novell. And in RAID-1 (mirrored) configuration, a 300r Series server costs only about 1.2 cents per megabyte, providing excellent insurance against accidents, operator errors, virus attacks and hardware breakdown.
New Microsoft Windows Print Server Option
All Iomega NAS 300r storage servers come with Microsoft Windows Print Server to provide centralized support and management for up to five network printers. Support for unlimited network printers is an available upgrade option.
Price, Availability, and Requirements
The Iomega NAS 300r Series storage servers are expected to start shipping in April. The Iomega NAS 300r Series 320 GB server will be available for $1,999; the Iomega NAS 300r Series 320 GB with Microsoft Windows Print Server, for $2,599; and the Iomega NAS 300r Series 500 GB with Microsoft Windows Print Server, for $2,999 (all prices are U.S. suggested list). Upgrade options include Microsoft Windows Print Server support for an unlimited number of network printers for $425, and Iomega's Gold Plus service plan for $399. All 300r Series servers include a standard three-year warranty with telephone, e-mail, and web-based customer support.
