Iomega Expands NAS 200d Entry-Level Storage Server Line-up
***
Now Incorporates REV Drive For Data Backup and Archiving and Network Printer Management
SAN DIEGO,
March 29, 2005 - Iomega Corporation (NYSE: IOM),
a global leader in data storage, today announced several
important updates to its NAS 200d series of entry-level
network attached storage (NAS) servers. Among the options
now available to Iomega buyers is a built-in Iomega
REV™ 35 GB* Drive for seamless high-performance
backup and archiving. Other options include higher storage
capacity-up to 750 gigabytes-and the ability to manage
an unlimited number of network printers. For small and
medium-sized businesses, remote offices and departmental
workgroups, the second-generation Iomega 200d storage
server is a more flexible performer and a better value
than ever.
Both new Iomega NAS 200d models feature
the same desktop design and nearly silent operation
of the original models, and all NAS 200d servers come
standard with Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2003
for seamless integration into Windows networks.
“We kept the features customers
loved about the 200d – the small size and quiet
operation – and added features that deliver improved
value and a better backup and archiving experience,”
said Wayne Arvidson, director, professional storage
services, Iomega Corporation. “Iomega NAS 200d
models with Microsoft Windows Print Server and Microsoft
Exchange Server 2003 database support can now carry
more of the load for regular network servers, and the
200d Series 320GB with Iomega REV storage is the first
NAS server anywhere to offer the complete package: full-featured
NAS services and high-performance REV storage backup
in a single desktop box.”
NAS Plus Backup
in a Box
In 2004, Iomega’s NAS 200d Series was the first
Microsoft-based NAS server designed for the desktop
in a small-office environment. Now the NAS 200d Series
is changing the desktop NAS market again by including
a 320GB* model that integrates the Iomega REV 35GB drive
for high-performance backup.
The Iomega REV drive reduces the
backup window by up to a factor of eight** and offers
the performance of a hard drive with the removability
of tape. Key advantages of REV over tape are lower total
cost of ownership, data integrity on a par with sealed
hard drives, faster data access times of just 13 milliseconds,
an estimated one million rewrites and an estimated shelf
life of 30 years.
An Advanced
Client Backup and Disaster Recovery Solution
Iomega includes Automatic Backup Pro (IAB Pro) software
with the Iomega NAS 200d storage server, transforming
it from a conventional network storage device to a complete
client backup solution. IAB Pro software gives each
client PC on the network the choice of continuous backup
or scheduled backup to the 200d server. With continuous
backup, every file the user creates or changes on a
client PC will be automatically copied to the 200d Series
server as a backup destination.
Data security is further enhanced
with IAB Pro software’s ability to back up multiple
file revisions and its easy configuration of scheduled
backups if preferred. And with up to 2.6:1 file compression***,
IAB Pro software makes each NAS dollar go farther.
“The forgotten piece of the puzzle in many businesses
is the ability to back up the day-to-day work that may
be located on client PCs rather than on a centralized
server,” said Arvidson. “IAB Pro makes it
happen automatically without any impact whatsoever on
administration costs.”
Superior File
Handling and Data Protection
All Iomega 200d storage servers come standard with Computer
Associates' eTrust™ Antivirus Software version
7.1, which protects data from virus attacks. Windows
Storage Server 2003 also supports services that ensure
data integrity and security:
• Microsoft Exchange Server
2003 database support improves the performance of Microsoft
Exchange servers by offloading the database;
• Volume Shadow Copy Services (VSS) provides up
to 512 point-in-time data restore points per volume,
allowing quick restores of deleted or corrupted data;
• Distributed File System (DFS) simplifies locating
and managing data on multiple network servers;
• File Replication Service (FRS) maintains identical
sets of files and directories on different servers and
workstations so when a file is updated on one server,
the file replication service replaces the corresponding
files on other servers;
• Encrypting File Systems (EFS) stores encrypted
data so even if the disk is moved to another system
the data remains secure;
• Disk Quotas track and enforce storage limits
on a per-user basis.
New Microsoft Windows Print Server Option
A NAS 200d storage server with the Microsoft Windows Print Server option can support up to 5 network printers. Support for unlimited network printers is an available upgrade option.
Iomega NAS
200d Advantages in the Workplace
The NAS 200d Series storage servers improve office productivity
with faster, more efficient information and file sharing.
They are easy to install and manage, featuring a plug-and-play
installation process. Because NAS 200d Series servers
come with Windows Storage Server 2003, they support
existing Microsoft services and greatly reduce training
needs, operating expenses and total cost of ownership.
NAS 200d servers also ensure superior performance in
the sub-$2,000 NAS product category, using advanced
components for improved speed and reliability:
• High-Speed SATA (Serial ATA) hard drives
for improved system performance;
• Cold-swap hard drives improve serviceability;
• RAID 1 or 5 protection against data loss due
to a hard drive failure (480 GB and 750 GB models).
RAID 1 protection (320 GB model);
• Dual 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet ports for
improved network performance and availability (480
GB and 750 GB models);
• Ultra SCSI 320 port for attaching high-speed
backup devices such as Iomega's REV™ drive or
REV Autoloader 1000 (320GB with print, 480 GB and
750 GB models).
All 200d servers support mixed computing environments
including Windows, Mac®, Linux, UNIX and Novell.

* 1 GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes. NAS capacities reflect
total drive capacity; operating system files and choice
of RAID level will reduce available capacity.
** The Iomega REV drive is up to eight times faster
than DDS-4 tape for backup; REV drive restore times
are virtually instant (13 ms access time) thanks to
random-access file-retrieval.
*** 2.6:1 data compression assumes the use of “high”
compression on Iomega Automatic Backup Pro software
with highly compressible files such as typical office
spreadsheets and documents. Capacity may vary and is
data and software dependent.
