Iomega Spices Up Digital Audio Player Market with Iomega Mixx™ Player
***
Sports-Oriented MP3 Player Includes FM Radio, Voice Recording
SAN DIEGO,
July 14, 2005 - Iomega Corporation (NYSE: IOM), a global leader in data storage celebrating 25 years of business in 2005, today announced the availability of the new Iomega® Mixx™ MP3 player for sports and fitness enthusiasts. A full-featured digital audio player available in three capacities, the Mixx MP3 player sells for hundreds of dollars less than hard-drive-based MP3 players and adds popular features like voice recording and FM broadcast recording.
"Iomega's Mixx MP3 player maximizes the fun of portable audio players at an affordable price," said Jennifer Burl, senior worldwide product manager, Iomega Corporation. "Its shock-resistant design can go anywhere and it holds up to 19 hours of music, yet it can also tune in local FM broadcasts and even record them to its internal memory. For students and travelers, the Mixx MP3 player can even double as a voice recorder to capture notes and impressions. It's a great gift idea that people will have fun with."
Features
The Iomega Mixx MP3 player holds up to 19 hours* of music (MP3, WMA, or WAV format) in its shock-resistant solid-state memory. About the size of a conventional USB key drive (2.96 x 1.5 x .92 inches), the Mixx MP3 player provides more than 10 hours of continuous play from its AAA battery. A USB interface enables music downloads and other data transfers from a host PC. In addition to playing music, users can also transport standard office files like presentations and spreadsheets for use on any compatible PC. Additional features include FM stereo with 30 presets, a built-in microphone for voice recording, and a backlit graphical display for viewing song titles, lyrics, and other information. A neck strap and rubberized easy-grip surface complement its durable alloy casing, making the player well suited for active use.
The MP3 Player Market
According to market research firm In-Stat, unit sales of all digital audio players, including hard disk drive players and solid-state players, were 27.8 million in 2004.** Unit sales are expected to increase to 104 million in 2009, a compound annual growth rate of 30.4 percent, with flash-based players leading in unit shipments. The booming growth of the digital audio player market is being driven by declining prices, the growth of online music stores, and the availability of higher capacity flash-based players.
What's in the Box
The Iomega Mixx MP3 player comes complete with earphones with a neck strap, USB cable, AAA alkaline battery, and quick-install guide.
