MPC Computers' Millennia and ClientPro Desktops, as well as select NetFRAME Servers, Now Offer Iomega's Revolutionary Removable Storage System
SAN DIEGO,
September 22, 2004 -
Iomega Corporation (NYSE: IOM), a global leader in
data storage, today announced that MPC Computers is
now shipping the Iomega® REV™ drive as a configurable
option on its desktop and server lines. MPC systems
configured with internal Iomega REV 35GB* ATAPI drives
are available immediately, giving users a fast, low
cost and reliable portable storage alternative to tape
storage and high-capacity magneto-optical devices.
MPC Computers is the second original equipment manufacturer
(OEM) to adopt the REV 35GB drive for its systems,
and the first OEM to offer the REV drive as a configurable
option. Iomega is working towards broad industry support
for the REV drive as a built-in option with new PCs.
"I am delighted that MPC customers can now choose
the Iomega REV 35GB drive as their high-performance
removable storage and tape-replacement option," said
Werner Heid, president and CEO, Iomega Corporation. "Iomega's
REV technology delivers superior speed, simplicity
and reliability at a great price, without the compromises
associated with tape. Iomega's strategy is to utilize
strong OEM relationships to bring the benefits of the
REV drive to a broader audience of small business owners
and IT managers."
"The Iomega REV drive is an exciting new backup and
restoration solution," said Paul Petersen, MPC's vice
president of product development and marketing. "At
MPC, we are excited to offer the Iomega REV 35GB drive
option to our government and business customers."
About REV
The Iomega REV 35GB drive offers the removeability
of tape with the speed and ease of use of a hard drive.
REV disks transfer data up to eight times faster than
tape**, are smaller than a deck of playing cards (10
x 77 x 75 mm), and can be rewritten more than a million
times (estimated). With a maximum sustained transfer
rate of 25 MB/sec, and using drag and drop random access
technology, REV users can copy and restore individual
files in seconds.
Currently shipping in ATAPI, external USB 2.0, FireWire®,
and SCSI configurations, the Iomega REV drive is the
winner of more than 10 industry awards worldwide, including "Best
of CeBIT America" for personal hardware and a PC Magazine "5
Stars" rating and Editors' Choice award (June 22, 2004,
issue).
Iomega REV Drive: The Tape Replacement Choice
Easy to use and priced lower than most competing tape
products, Iomega's REV drive outperforms more expensive
tape alternatives like DDS-4, DAT-72, VXA®, AIT-1,
and DLT VS80. Servers with REV disk backup will also
appeal to businesses and home office users that have
not adopted tape backup due to speed, cost, or ease-of-use
issues. Medical, legal, financial and other such businesses
faced with regulatory compliance requirements for data
archiving further extend the market for internal and
external REV drives as an ideal backup, archiving, and
portable storage solution.
"Iomega's REV drive is a compelling alternative
for customers who have traditionally used tape for
backup and data protection on their entry level servers
as well as high-end desktops," said Robert Amatruda,
research manager at IDC. "REV's performance, ease-of-use
and attractive price make it a good fit for small businesses
that value high-capacity removable storage."
Revolutionary Software
Many backup software companies, including CommVault Systems,
Computer Associates, Dantz, VERITAS, Yosemite Technologies,
and Microlite already support the REV drive with standard
backup software.
