Broad Software Industry Support Ensures REV Drive Compatibility with Leading Backup Software Programs
SAN DIEGO,
May 5, 2004 - Iomega Corporation (NYSE: IOM), a global leader in data storage, today announced that leading backup software companies have confirmed compatibility between their products and the new Iomega® REV™ 35GB/90GB* drive. Collectively, these companies—CommVault Systems, Computer Associates, Dantz, Symantec, VERITAS, and Yosemite Technologies—represent the majority of the backup installations in small and medium-sized businesses.
Third-party software support for the Iomega REV drive
is one of the cornerstones of its early acceptance
as a tape alternative. Today’s announcement means
that the majority of small and medium-sized businesses
currently using tape backup can now migrate smoothly
to the Iomega REV drive while continuing to use their
chosen backup software.
Easy to use, up to 8 times faster** and less than
half the price of most competing tape products, Iomega
REV drive products outperform more expensive tape alternatives
like DDS-4, DAT 72, VXA®, AIT-1, and DLT VS80.
Tape drives impose significant media, maintenance and
administration costs on the backup and restore process.
REV products and partner software make the process
simpler and cheaper, while reducing the backup time
by up to 70 percent***.
“Iomega recognizes that small and medium-sized
business customers have well-established backup processes,
and management software is key to those processes,” said
Susan Huberman, vice president of emerging technology
marketing, Iomega Corporation. “Iomega REV products
are designed to work with existing storage software
management solutions and have been tested to ensure
compatibility. We look forward to continuing to work
with a broad base of partners to optimize future REV
products with their software.”
Partners who have announced support (as described
in more detail below) for Iomega REV products include
CommVault Systems, Computer Associates, Dantz Development,
Symantec, VERITAS Software and Yosemite Technologies.
This initial set of partners accounts for the majority
of the backup software installations currently in use
in small and medium-sized businesses today****, assuring
customers of compatibility with the new REV drive.

develop the next generation of storage solutions for
small and medium enterprises.”
Computer Associates “Iomega’s new REV drive successfully fulfills the market’s desire for a cost-effective tape backup solution that can deliver drive-like performance and ease of use,” said Jim Geronaitis, vice president of product marketing for BrightStor storage management at CA. “CA’s support for the REV drive enables our customers to leverage its capabilities in tandem with BrightStor ARCserve Backup, which delivers outstanding read/write performance, streamlined management, time-saving automation and broad interoperability.”

Symantec looks forward to working with Iomega to bring additional innovative storage solutions to market.”

Yosemite Technologies
"Iomega’s new REV drive represents a breakthrough in the back-up-to-disk movement: removability,” said John Maxwell, vice president, marketing, Yosemite Technologies. “Yosemite Technologies’ TapeWare® backup software combined with the Iomega REV drive offers small and medium enterprises the ability to radically simplify their backup, recovery and archiving process. Yosemite Technologies will continue to work with Iomega to optimize our storage solutions for small and medium enterprise customers.”
About REV Products
Iomega REV products offer the removability of tape with the speed and ease of
use of a hard drive. REV disks transfer data up to eight times faster than
tape, are smaller than a deck of playing cards (10 x 77 x 75 mm), and can be
rewritten more than a million times (estimated). With a maximum sustained transfer
rate of 25MB/sec, and using drag and drop random access technology, REV drive
users can copy and restore individual files in seconds.
The Iomega REV drive is now shipping in USB 2.0 external ($399.99 with one disk
included) and ATAPI internal ($379.99 with one disk included) configurations.
REV disks are available individually ($59.99) or in a four-pack ($199.95); all
prices are U.S. suggested retail. Iomega REV autoloaders, which will support
multiple disks per drive unit, are currently planned for introduction in the
second half of 2004. FireWire®, SCSI and SATA models are also planned for
introduction in the second half of this year. For more information on Iomega
