Iomega Corporation Announces Adoption of Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2003 for Iomega Network Attached Storage Servers
SAN DIEGO,
September 10, 2003 — Iomega Corporation
(NYSE: IOM), a global leader in data storage, today
announced that the Iomega line of Windows-based network-attached storage (NAS) servers will begin transitioning to Microsoft
Windows® Storage Server 2003 operating system software
in the fourth quarter of 2003. The operating system
update is expected to provide Iomega NAS customers with
enhanced scalability and data protection, bringing increased
enterprise-level features within reach of small and
medium-sized businesses.
Iomega will be at Storage Decisions
2003 in Chicago, Sept. 10 to 13, demonstrating Microsoft
Windows Storage Server 2003 running on an Iomega NAS
P305m server.
“Microsoft has been a terrific
ally in the growth of Iomega’s Windows-based NAS
product line,” said Wayne Arvidson, director of
marketing for network storage solutions at Iomega Corporation.
“Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2003 gives our
customers an excellent foundation for building reliable
storage systems that are easy to manage and maintain,
which is especially important for small and medium-sized
businesses that often do not have a dedicated IT staff.”
New Features
Iomega NAS servers with Microsoft Windows Storage Server
2003 are preconfigured and ready to deploy in minutes.
Windows Storage Server 2003 offers a highly scalable
solution ranging from 160 gigabytes to 40+ terabytes.
Windows Storage Server 2003 offers advanced capabilities,
such as Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS), which provides
an intelligent infrastructure for “shadow”
copies, or point-in-time copies, of a single volume
or multiple volumes.
Other new features include:
- Multi-Path I/O (MPIO) Capability.
Servers can employ multiple data connections between
host and storage for improved availability.
- iSCSI Support. Client-side
iSCSI capabilities will allow systems to make use
of new iSCSI storage devices.
"Iomega brings a deep understanding of the storage needs
of small and midsize businesses," said Charles Stevens,
corporate vice president of the Enterprise Storage Division
at Microsoft Corp. "These businesses need secure, reliable
storage solutions, and they often don't have the benefit
of a dedicated IT staff. An Iomega NAS server with Windows
Storage Server 2003 provides them with the storage resource
management tools and reporting tools they need to help
ensure data integrity across the network." About
