Iomega Licenses Iomega® Sync Software
to Sharp Systems of America
SAN DIEGO,
Calif., March 14, 2003 - Iomega Corporation (NYSE:
IOM), a global leader in portable data storage, has
partnered with Sharp Systems of America to deliver SharpSync™,
a mobility-enhancing software solution that is powered
by Iomega® Sync software. The Iomega Sync-Powered
SharpSync solution allows Sharp Actius notebook users
to seamlessly maintain data consistency across multiple
computers, providing users with freedom from the hassles
of data protection and synchronization that are associated
with mobile computing.
The new notebook computer from Sharp,
the Actius MM10, let users enjoy the benefits of highly
mobile computing while also maintaining absolute data
consistency with their desktop computers. This multi-PC
usage model is made possible by the Iomega® Sync-Powered
SharpSync solution, which combines the Actius MM10 Connection
Cradle with a USB bridge chip and the Iomega® Sync
software to create a seamless connection between PCs.
This solution allows Actius MM10 notebook users to keep
important files synchronized between their Sharp notebook
and main computer. Iomega Sync automatically updates
selected folders between the user’s main computer
and the hard drive on the notebook computer, ensuring
that users always have the latest copy of their important
files.
“Iomega has invested considerable
effort in making Iomega Sync a powerful software that
delivers easy PC-to-PC syncing for the SharpSync solution,”
said Sean Burke, vice president, mobile and desktop
solutions, Iomega Corporation. “It is very gratifying
that Sharp recognized the value of our Iomega Sync software
and has leveraged our technology in the form of SharpSync
with its innovative Actius MM10 product line.”
The Iomega Sync-Powered SharpSync
solution allows users to select folders or files on
their separate machines that they would like to keep
in sync with the Actius MM10. Then, each time the Actius
MM10 notebook computer is placed in its Connection Cradle,
Iomega Sync automatically synchronizes those folders
between the user’s main computer and the Actius
MM10 ultra-portable notebook, ensuring that the user
always has the latest copy of important files.
Terry Hanly, product marketing manager
at Sharp Systems of America, explains, “The Actius
MM10 notebook not only provides users with superior
hardware mobility, but also true seamless data mobility.
Wireless connectivity is enabled through the integrated
WiFi IEEE 802.11b antenna, and data consistency is assured
through the use of the Iomega Sync-Powered SharpSync
solution. Actius MM10 users are able to free themselves
from the data consistency hassles that are inherent
in highly mobile, multi-computer usage models, while
staying connected through the Actius MM10’s integrated
WiFi support .”
